Anybody having problems with the paint? The paint finish on the hood and roof & some other areas feels like sandpaper and the hood seems to be chipping with ease.

I only have 4,000 miles on the car, a 2006 model. I know there was a problem with the red but my car is obsidian.

tcb-I believe you will need to buy a good clay bar. I have used Mother's brand in the past, and it worked wonders on my black M. With just an hours work, you can have that sand paper feeling like butter. As far as the hood easily chipping, I'm not sure what to recommend besides one of those clear invisible bras. My friend has a silver G35 and you cannot even tell he has one on the car, but it has saved his hood from a lot of highway abuse.

Good luck!

Definitely sounds like clay bar work is needed.

Also, check out: http://www.stongard.com for protection from small road hazards. A bit expensive, but some people consider it worth the money.

I also have a black 03 M45, I have had it buffed out several times, and take good care of it. I can not get it to look right. There is always lots of swirl marks and fine scratches. Any suggestions or advice on getting this car back to looking new would be greatly appreciated. I love the car, but the black paint drives me crazy unless it is perfect. Thanks in advance for any tips or help. CD

I feel your pain!!! I'm the same way and black drives me nuts. I've tried everything, some things work better than others. Meguiar's #2 polish & swirl remover works the best for me, but then you must wax the car. There is a pro near me and I've seen his work and there's almost no swirl marks when he's finished but he's not cheap.

I'm sure others have their secrets.Good luck.

What I have used and like a lot is the Zaino product line. Takes work, but gets outstanding results. Check out http://www.zainobros.com for the info.

Do you mind elaborating on what you meant when you said that you knew that the red paint on 2006 cars had "problems". I have an 06 Crimson Pearl M45.

Thanks

Every time you wash a black car you need to wax it. That is the only way to keep the finish looking good. If not it will look ashy, you will see swirl marks and stratches. Black paint shows everything and takes a lot of work thats why I don't buy black cars anymore. When they are clean they are the best looking cars.
