m-30 auto trans will not upshift to o/d

My 1991 m-30 trans will not upshift to overdrive from 3rd even with the o/d button engaged on the shift lever (the o/d light goes out on the dash}.

What could cause this?

I had the battery replaced , and the transmission upshift problem started immediately afterwards.

Any ideas or the name of an honest and qualified repair shop in the Pompano Beach/Ft Lauderdale/Broward County,FL area would be most appreciated.
