521rotary, There is a steering wheel adaptor, up for bid on eBay. It's made by Ansen for mounting custom steering wheels. There's a little over 2 days left to bid on it, and I believe the current price is $24.00 with $7.00 for shipping. John

ive seen that but it looks like its for a four bolt steering wheel. most aftermarket steering wheels are for a five or mostly six bolt design (most not all).

521rotary, Are you sure that the kit won't work? Many aftermarket items have extra holes in them, so they can fit any number of applications. That way they wouldn't need to have 23 different kits to fit 23 different vehicles. The important thing is to have holes for mounting bolts and for electrical contacts for the horn. Check with your local auto parts store and see if they'll show you the installation instructions for the steering wheel that you want. You might find that the kit will work. John

i have actually went to several of local part stores and i get nothing but the deer in the headlight look. ".... datsun 521... what the hell is that...." 9 out of 10 times.

i never said that the adapter on ebay wouldnt work, i just know that after of a good week or more of researching most steering wheels i want to buy are 5 or 6 bolt patterns.

does anyone know the lug pattern?? been searching for the past month and went to several stores that specialize in wheels and no one seems to know.

521rotary,  The steering wheel is held on with one nut. I looked at the adaptor on eBay, and it appears that one part bolts onto the steering wheel shaft, with the horn hardware, then the hub, with the 4 holes, is attached by bolts (probably 2) going through the hardware for mounting the horn button, then through the steering wheel, and into the hub. Concerning a wheel having 5 or 6 bolts attachng it to the steering column, there could be an adaptor specific to that wheel, or some fasteners could be for show. Two bolts would provide plenty of strength to hold the wheel on. Do any of you 521 owners have a custom wheel with an adaptor? You may have the information needed here. John

521rotary, The JC Whitney catalog has steering wheel adaptor kits for the '70-'90 Datsun/Nissan vehicles. The illustration shows the parts in a shotgun style blow-up, which will give you a better idea how this kit would be mounted on your steering column. John

Just make sure you either buy a NOS adapter or, very carefully inspect a used one before using it. Grant adapters used a copper based soft metal for the sleeve and if the splines are worn at all, they can, and tend to, catastrophically fail in a hard cornering situation.

Please don't ask how I know this.

Grant wheels with 5 bolts require an additional adapter that's basically a 5-pronged, 2" riser that bolts up to the hub mounting plate.

(The 6 bolt ones are for marine applications I think....I had one on my 521.)

521rotary,  NOS is New Old Stock in other words, old, obsolete, or discontinued stock that is new, and unused. John
