I went to a pick-n-pull yesterday with my dad to snag some parts for the Maxima. I decided to look for Qs (I needed a few small parts). Found only one, and unfortunately it was a red '90 so I couldn't get the driver headlight I needed (mine has a small nick in it).

BUT, the car had two good genuine Nissan hood struts. So good, in fact, that one strut held the hood easily.

I also snagged the black clock from the dash. I've never liked gold, and the gold-on-white clock is really hard to read at night, so the black clock will be nice.

I also took the belt buckle. I would have left it for whoever bought the hood, but the car had front-end damage and the hood and emblem were damaged. It'll look nice on my shelf with my other Q paraphernalia though.

So I got a new clock and good hood struts for $10. I'm happy.

For the Max, we snagged a driver headlight (man, I have bad luck in that area!), driver window motor, lower front bumper trim, and an early Ford Taurus hideable DIN cupholder (the factory Maxima one is too shallow and has oddball sizes that make it 100% useless).

Do you know if the 90-93 Hood shocks will work on the 94-96. I'll check myself but thats a so so right now.

It never clicked in my head to just get them from the junkyard. My hood shocks can't hold the hood at all.

Yep, they work. The struts I got were from a 90-93 and they're the same as the ones I took off my '95. They're on my car now. Even the upper (hood-side) brackets are the same, which simplifies junkyard removal.

I hope it rattles less than the one in my '90 Mercury Cougar... is it the one with the push buttons on the front and I think it also had a coin tray in the other slot?

If you find your back glass broken out, it means that you Max couldn't stand having a Furd part installed in her and projectile vomited it into the lot!

BTW, I had a beautiful IPQ '91 Maxima SE M/T for about a year. Aside from a squeaky back glass and a clock that faded out (just like the Q's climate control) it was a wonderful car. I would probably still have it had I not taken it sideways and backwards across three lanes of an interstate, up a hill, and through a fence (backwards) to it's death. It's amazing how poorly they handle at speed when a road hazard punches a quarter-sized hole through the left front tire. That was one tough car... not a scratch on me. The s were watching over me that day. Traffic was moderate and I managed not to hit anyone, or cause any other accidents.

Yeah, it's the one with a coin holder on top and the buttons on the front.I doubt it'll rattle, though, it seems very solid (I picked the best of many at the junkyard). It's actually not an uncommon mod for the Maxima thanks to the Maxima's utterly useless stock cupholder.

They were certainly great cars. Clearly an attempt at making a sort of lower price mini-Q. Sad to hear yours went out like that, but at least it kept you safe. Mine's been through 3 minor fender-benders all only damaging the driver side bumper (one a hit-and-run ) but nothing bad yet, fortunately.

It looks like the black clock I salvaged for the Q isn't keeping time properly. Too bad, as I really like how it looks at night. I guess the gold one's going back in. Maybe I can repair the black one.
