Would this be good to put in the AWD differentials rather than the suggested gear oil?

Lucas is heavy duty and has always worked well and done wonders with their motor and transmission fluids. I figure to maybe try their differential fluid as well.

FWIW, in the past, Lucas oil additives have been shown to be bad for engines, actually. See http://www.bobistheoilguy.com for some info on this - assuming that the article is still at his site.

Left me a bad impression on them, but I am not sure if it is indicative of what their quality is today though. Or for something like their differential gear oil which is an entirely different product.

Regardless, I think that you would do fine with an easily available synthetic gear oil for the differentials. Like Mobil 1 Synthetic Gear Oil 75W-90 (or even 75W-140 too).

It is not like the differential oil gets particularly hot (like engine oil). So, a high-quality synthetic ought to be just fine! :yesnod

Thanks Z.

In the past I had an old 4x4 with an engine oil leak. Every oil change I use to add a bottle of Lucas and it would stop the leak completely. Also, on that same car my transmission would slip. I added a bottle of the Lucas transmission and one day I was at a red light and I heard a thump that was so loud, I though my transmission fell to the ground haha. But I guess on that day, the transmission went back into place. My transmission never slipped again. So personally, I've had good experiences with Lucas. But you're right. The differential oil doesn't get hot, so I might as well put synthetic Mobil1 in there.
