A follow-on question for q45tech/Texasoil or ? ?

I recall the mention of a gradual (3oz @ a time) addition of Lubegard Black into ATF - is there any need for this modifier if straight Mobil 1 synthetic ATF is going to be introduced ?

Also - is the pan from a 90 - 93 VH45 interchangable onto a 96 ?

TIA - This has to be the greatest group of techies ever that are really willing to share thier hardearned knowledge ! :dogpile

1) No2) Hmm, the bottom end on both engiens is the same, its gotto be the same pan.Am I willing to bet a years salary on it no, But i'd be willing to bet the price of a junkyard pan on it..:D

Sorry I guess we have to wait for Dennis to confirm just to be sure.

Mobil 1 syn ATF meets the minimum specification for Dexron III g but it does not meet ALL the specifications of Nissamatic D which is the factory fill in new and remanned transmission before the current 2002 5 speed AT.

Lubeguard black is Lubeguard Red with a friction modifier which when added to a Dexron III g ATF gets very very close or overly slick if too much is added.

Many like the firmness of plan Dexron but used transmission with clutch wear need to be fine tuned as to the lockuo/unlock feel for the descerning customer...............we use Dexron and BG Conditioner in our flushes which is some where in the middle ...no compliants.

Just as you can mix Redline High Temp ATF [thicker at same temperature] with Dexron to create a middle weight [kind of like 15w50 oil to raise the idling oil pressure] you can do the same with various ATF.........in summer only.

Just flushed the remanned I substituted last July [bought wrecked car with 10k on it] which has had Dex III since new and a flush at 9k, then Lubeguard Black at 11k [to fix some shift shock] AGAIN at 24k. ATF looked brand new but since it only cost me the ATF [$20] plus my time....why not

Anyway the shift shock [with JWT trimode tcu] returned with plain Dex III -- so its off to the store for Lube Black again.

The point is the stuff works and without it, it was noticable IMMEDIATELY on the drive home.

This used reman transmission has now been flushed 3 times in 24,000 miles and has 15 k in my Q.

Why haven't I gone Back to Mobil Syn ATF [which yielded 176k life in the previous AT].......because I'm hoping the engine and transmission both fail together at 300,000 miles [next 53k] to force me to buy a new car....in the next 3 years.

Maybe we should let members give input?

I think Dennis should look at a 2 year used M45 by then.Almost certain to be a screaming deal.

Why settle for so little power/torque 333 lb/ft is for wimps need at least a ZF 6speed AT maybe an all aluminum JAG with a MB 5.5 AMG dual turbo engine...........540 lb/ft or die.

I'm tired of 337 lb/ft in a 4,000 pound car.

I read an article on the AMG motor plant. Pics of well paid german guys in white jump suits building the motors by hand. Apparently, (I have never seen one) the assembler gets to put his name on a plate that is attached to each block. The demand is so high that, according to the article, that they can not turn them out fast enough. 540 lbs!!!!

so you dont need lubegard black with mobil 1? I have shudder on the 1-2 shift and the lockup is sluggish

Also what should I put in before I take it to have the transmission flushed? Is there a BG Quick clean for transmission's? if there is can i use it on the PS system?

Mobil 1 won't cure wear and damage already done! Try the Lubeguard if it doesn't help you know you have trashed the transmission.

158k is nearing the end of a transmission but I have seen a few go over 200k [in 94 & 95 models with all the improvements].

Can't imagine that LG will hurt anything [unless you make the ATF too slick [full bottle or more].

The flush shop should have BG Cleaner which is used prior to the flush. The BG Video Tape manual for the flush unit shows the car UP on the lift being driven in all 4 gears plus reverse for a total of 15 minutes..........that way you can watch the ATF circulating [in bypass] and measure the ATF temp as it rises to 176F deciding when it is black enough to switch to flush and time the 3.5 minutes the flush should actually take [4 quarts per minute] to determine the internal transmission pump's health.

Guess it would be ok for 15-20 miles drive with the cleaner installed..........BUT what happens if you have an emergency or the shops machine fails in the time period between the cleaner and the flush............wouldn't want the stuff to remain inside too long.

The color of the flushed ATF tells you if you need a supplemental flush..........much easier and hopefully cheaper to just purge and refill the machine for a 2nd 3rd go at it! While the adapters are connected to car [quick disco on ends].

Nothing wrong with generic DexronIII if you change it frequently enough and are satisfied with low temp performance................it's all about watching for a color change!
