Hi Guys,

Been using this forum's wealth of information for a while now, but registered to post a question (Finally)

I have a SR20DET S14 and my cams are quite worn, the previous owner treated the car like crap.

In SA we mostly have FWD SR20DE's

Will their cams work in a RWD SR20DET? I have the 220hp SR20DET with VCT

I've read a few posts in this regard, but havent gotten a clear answer.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

no it wont. Your turbo cams have different profiles than the FWD cams. Also, I dont think the FWD cams are compatible with your VVT system.

FWD cams are radically different from RWD cams.

A) the distributor on FWD cars is driven from the back of the exhaust cam. The RWD has the gear on the front of the exhaust cam

B) VVT on the intake prevents you from being able to use the FWD intake cam as well.

C) I do believe that the heads are slightly different in dimensions as well, so I would have to say that the cams are different in length without having a RWD and FWD cam to measure for direct comparison.

check out our camshaft mega thread (stickied on the main RWD SR page for your convenience) to help get an idea of an aftermarket cam if you want to go that route. Otherwise, I would suggest looking at finding someone selling a set of stock RWD S14 cams.
