LT1 swapped into a 77' 280z

V8 240sx? Sure! If either the chassis OR the engine is non-Nissan (i.e. SR20 in an RX-7 or LS1 in a 240sx), we've done it.

I recently purchased a 1977 Datsun 280z after my fiancee crashed my 95' Trans Am. What I'm wanting to do is to rebuild the LT1 from the Trans Am and put it into my Z. And I was just wondering if anyone had any pointers, or any words of wisdom like how much it might cost me and how difficult this little endeavor is going to be. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My only advice is to sell the LT1 and buy a stock LS1 instead of rebuilding. You'll thank me later.

The trans crossmember wont work if you are using a T56, if the donor car is an auto, it will work. You didnt specify which.

Depending on how their mounts are, you may have some interference issues with the a/c compressor mounting location.

Their speedometer cable you wont be able to use so dont buy that from them either.

Getting it running will be fairly easy, though the harness layout may not be ideal for the car, thats going to come down to the installer, etc.

Keep in mind the LT1's heads have D port exhaust, so make sure you get headers capable of covering them. Most 1.75" headers with a square port will do this, 1 5/8's you'd want them to be designed for D ports.
