alright first off, i know this topic has been discussed, but i've yet to find anything helpful on the fourms.....anyway i came across a 95 chevy caprice with an Lt1 motor with 260hp and 330lb tourque and transmission....was thinking since i just blew my engine in my 1990 300zx 2+2, i'd research to see what it would take to do the conversion.........my questions are, what if any, cutting would be involved in fitting the engine and transmission in? i've heard one person wided his transmission bay to fit it in and i've heard others just throwing it in, i've heard ppl say the swap is pretty straightforward and standard, while others say its alotta work.

my questions are:
-what mods would i need to swap the engine(besides manufacturing motor mounts)
-general cost on the items needed for the swap to work
-will the transmission fit
-anything else you could inform me about to make the swap easier

(i do not want to get into the usual debate of "why would you put an american engine in an import" or anytype of flaming about v6's or v8's, i just need help)
total i 'd like to spend at most 1500......i have the caprice already.

You may want to look around HybridZ.org. There are lots of projects like that over there. You won't get flamed either :)

PM me your email and I can send you a guide on the LS1/Z32 swap. It isn't exactly the same but you'll get the gist of what's needed, and all the dimensions for mounts and such should be the same.

to get the engine to sit right ( have the engine and transmission completely level and centered in the engine bay) you would have to modify (cut/ massage) the trans tunnel to get the transmission to fit. also your gonna need to notch the oil pan or play with thte lower crossmemeber. of course wireing but thats usually more time than anything. you will also need to get a custom drive shaft to fit. theres alot more little details such as headers and things like that, but the lt1 actually sits pretty nicely. :) i have a 2+2 as well and the lt1 is the engine i have planned for it.
like others said hybridz. lots of cool stuff on there.

keep in mind if you have smog laws or not. i live in cali, and they make things a pain so keep all the smog equipment from the original vehichle if you need to get it checked out. it will save you alot of time if you have it all up front.

keep in mind, yes you can throw the swap together and get the engine in there and not worry about it being level and all that, but in the long run it would be better to do it right :) just my 2 cents anywyas. it will be better, and just look alot better.
