I have an 89 240sx with sr swap. I am trying to put an VLSD out of an S14 in my car. All I have is the half shaft and the Differential itself. Will this work or do I need to modify something?

i believe the s14's have 6bolt axles and the 89 240's have 5..just take a look up under the car at that and see if you have 5 or 6 bolt..you can check without even jacking the car up..if they are different you will need new axles

put the s13 rear cover on the s14 pumpkin and you can use your stock half shafts they are also 6 bolt and will bolt right up.

I am going crazy, I cant get the short shaft all the way in the pumpkin with the new diff installed. Also I have got to get some shims but unsure where to get the correct shims to fix the pinion gear back lash..There is too much play....Anyone ever actually done this?

Let me explain in a little more detail what I have going on.

I have an 89 240sx with 6 bolt half shafts. I purchased a VLSD off of e-bay that came as the diff and the 6 bolt half shafts. NO PUMPKIN.So what I had to do is take my Diff out of my car, pull the cover off, take the half shafts out, remove the ring gear from my original pumpkin, install it on new pumpkin. Then reasemble the diff, Took my new 6 bolt shafts that came with the new diff. and install. got the longer shaft in no problem the shorter shaft stops about 1/4 inch short. Will not go all the way in like originals did. What is up with that? Also need the shims for the ring gear. Seems to be way too much play...

Any help would be great. I may have to end up taking my diff to a nissan mechanic to get this right.

assuming the rear end didn't have issues prior to dissassembly you shouldn't need any more shims than what was already in place. just use your original half-shafts. they should work. i did the EXACT same thing to my car with no issues. so to recap 1. put shims where the came from or fiddle with until proper clearance is realized. 2. use original half shafts assuming they're six bolt. reinstall and get sideways
