Do many of the 96-99 Pathfinders have limited slip diffs?

Are there any "rules" as to which ones have it?

Do any have a LSD front diff?

I am about to change the fluid in my diffs (97 SE 4x4) and need to know if they are limited slip or not. I can figure out if the rear one is (one wheel on grass, one on pavement, hit the throttle) but have no idea how to know if the front one is or not.

Thanks!

As far as I know pathfinders never came with front lsd's. Most gear oils now are lsd compatible so no extra additive is needed. Your method on testing your rear diff may not be accurate. look for orange sticker on diff or jack up rear tires and spin one by hand, if the other tire moves in same direction you have lsd. If the other one moves in opposite direction then you dont have lsd or the lsd is worn out

On my Ex I added the LSD additive even though I used Royal Purple synthetic diff fluid. May be overkill but for only $4 a bottle for the LSD additive I did not want to take a chance over saving $4.

My Path unfortunately does not have LSD so no worries there. No front LSD as far as I know.

Somewhat off topic, Anyone know which rear tire spins on non LSD? I am thinking passenger side? Reason I am asking is I am rotating in the original spare for the first time and it has a decent amount of tread over the other 3 tires. I want to put the spare tire on the spinning side. I really recommend replacing (as well as tire experts) both tires on same axle but not spending the money on older tires I only use for winter.

the tire with the least traction is the one that will spin, whether it's driver's side or passenger's side.

you spent $19/qt on 3 quarts of Royal Purple synthetic gear lube, which clearly says it's LSD compatible on the bottle. yet you bought a $4 bottle of additive to be safe? on a non-LSD axle. ha.

no pathfinder ever came with front LSD.

alex, I wasnt clear--My Explorer has 3.73 LSD, I had already purchased the $4 bottle of "FORD LSD ADDITIVE" before i even heard of Royal Purple. Some Ford diehards really recommend the Ford additive. I could not return it to Ford so I added it along with the Royal Purple. I purchased an aftermarket rear axle cover with a drain plug about 2 years ago along with Ford additive and didnt get around to installing until this summer. Been reading about Amsoil and Royal Purple in the last year, which is why I went with the RP. It actually holds about 4.5 quarts. Also had the rear axle cover powder coated so it really got pricey.... Definitely a great upgrade which looks great too.

On the Pathfinder, I do not have Limited Slip. I used Mobil 1 synthetic 75W-90 for the front and the rear diffs. WITHOUT LSD additive.

Now let the flaming begin on FORD.... HEH HEH

perhaps spell out the entire name next time, instead of just "Ex." i didn't know you were talking about an Explorer.
