the V LSDs use a special length output shaft to engage into the viscous coupler. The open diff shafts are too short to reach it. That's why you can't use your stock stubbies.
There are a few remedies for this. You can buy a set of 240 stub shafts. All R200Vs use the same style output shaft, the flange is what is different among the model lines. All CA powered S13s in Japan used the 6 bolt pattern, as do all model years of the 240. If you have SR S13 or J30 stubbies, you can get a set of J30 axles or SR S13 axles. If you go that route, you will get a more stout axle than the stock 240 axle.
Be warned, if you decide to buy a new set of stub axles from Nissan, be prepared to pay a good $280. It's also next to impossible to get them out of a junkyard because most yards prefer to sell the stubs with the diff itself.
I got lucky and found a set of CA axles and stubs on eBay for $66. Not only were they the proper V LSD outputs, but I also have an extra set of axles in case one of mine ever go out.
