ok guys fill me in please, i was thinking, i know limited slip diff will give me a quicker launch but after that wont it slow you down. i say this b/c w/ the open diff the motor only has to to spin one wheel, one axle, one rotor etc. But with the lsd now it has to spin 2 wheels, 2 rotors, 2 axles etc. Get my point, let me know whats up??

the lsd only spins both when one is spinning faster than the other. when ones starts spinning it heats up the silcone (in think) in side to make it lcok upto the other output shaft/ axle to transfer power

so then after you are finished launching then the lsd converts back to any open diff and only one wheel is spinning, correct??

Traction off the line makes you faster than one wheel spinning will. Try to think of it that way.

Some VLSD info for those (like me) that don't really understand.

After a launch the diff converts back to operating like an open diff yes. That is the wheels are not locked in any type of fashion. Both wheels are spinning. It's not like only one wheel gets power when you go in a straight line. It means that torque is distributed evenly to both wheels and they are rotating at the same rate. Your still applying torque to both wheels. So your statement in your first post is bogus. Like rico05 said "Traction off the line makes you faster than one wheel spinning will. Try to think of it that way." Also, please do look up some basic information on how you car propels itself. Knowing is half the battle. ;)

just to clarify. Even an open diff puts power to both wheels. It is POSSIBLE for all the power to leak to one wheel without LSD. That doesn't mean it always does. If you wanna test this you can jack the back of your car up and start it... put it in gear and both wheels will spin in the sme direction whether you have LSD or not...
