Hey, I know I'll probably get flamed for starting another thread on VLSD swaps, but after several searches (NICO and otherwise) I still have 2 questions.

1) Do I use LSD fluid or not? I've found sources that support both sides. Some people say "use LSD fluid from Redline or use an LSD silicone additive or the fluid will not expand", while others say "don't use LSD fluid because the R200V is a closed unit, Nissan recommends 80W-90 gear oil." Whose right? I'm confused....

2) What should I do about the lack of bushings between my diff mounting holes and my frame? I've found numerous threads asking this with no clear cut answer. Can I just tighten the bolts real tight to hold the housing against the frame, even though there is a gap between the top of the front diff and the mounting surface? Does anyone have part numbers for OEM replacements? Should I just stack some grade 8 washers up there? Any other options or opinions about what is preferable would be helpful.

Thanks in advance for helping me out and not flaming me to hell.~Joe

The VLSD is a sealed unit. You do not need to use anything other than regular gear oil for it. Any additive or special oil is not needed, and you are just wasting money. But one thing is advised if you are going with VLSD, and that is to use a heavier weight oil to help dissipate the heat. Heat kills VLSD's.

Thanks, that what I thought, but I found sources that said the opposite as well. One down, one to go...

I just came from the yard, where I didn't find any bushings on any of the 240 rear ends there. Come on guys, throw me a bone. I know it's been covered a million times, but most of that assumes that you pulled the diff/axles yourself and can just take the bolts, bushing, etc. then. I bought mine and it didn't come with the front bolts, bushings etc. I stacked some grade 8 washers on some 85mm bolts to hold it up through the larger mounting holes, but right now they're just holding the diff housing tight against the car, there is still a gap between the frame and the mounting surface on the diff. Is this acceptable? I can't imagine that it is, so before I drive it I want to remedy this situation. Help. Please. If I don't hear anything soon, I'm just gonna stack some more washers on top of the diff.

what vlsd are you running?

If it's a j30 vlsd, (and there is the rubber bushing part inside), you only need the proper bolts & metal washers that go around the front mounting points - which can be found via some of our sponsors (CourtesyParts, etc, etc).

If it's some other random vlsd missing bushings... the proper (and easiest way for me, at least, based on the info you've given), is to swap the internals of the vlsd w/ my current housing. Swapping the internals will require a couple seals/gaskets that you can also get from our sponsors. The actual procedure can be basically found by looking @ the LSD swap articles on this site/google/etc. You should be able to make it out from there.

You do NOT want any play from the diff -> frame. There is a lot of torque that gets passed through that area & you can very well crack your subframe (happened to one of my friends who ran a j30 w/o the proper metal washers).

But really now... you suxors @ the searching... and common sense.

i.e. if you just searched on how lsd's worked in general (through google, howstuffworks, etc), you would have found your answer from legitimate sources w/o having to question whether or not the info provided is true. For your 2nd question, you would have found the answer if you read up enough about lsd/vlsd swaps etc depending on which vlsd you have & see what ppl have done. If you are missing a part from completing your install properly, you should realize that you shouldn't be ghetto-rigging/jerry-rigging/etc-rigging your setup if you care about your safety, long term durability, etc.

I have already disposed of my original diff housing, since I already swapped the back cover over to the new diff (think it's either an NA Z32 or an S14 since it had the 2-bolt rear cover). I found the necessary bushings on Courtesy Parts, since I'd hate to do this in an unacceptable fashion. Please let me know if this is incorrect or incomplete.2x http://www.courtesyparts.com/M...RS5802x http://www.courtesyparts.com/M...RS5802x http://www.courtesyparts.com/M...RS580Plus my longer bolts (85 mm).

Someone please verify the parts listed in the above post. Then I will act accordingly.
