hey all,

I was wondering what lsd would fit into my 90 s13 hb?

I've heard of the 300zx na, q45, j30 all working for 240sx's. i've heard that to get these in you'll have to do this and that. which lsd would fit into my s13 without any problems, doing whatever to the axles etc.

Thanks in advance,

300zx na, 95+j30, or another 240 without modification iirc, also theres the 180sx vlsd you can get from lsauto.com, and countless jdm ones like nismo, cusco, kaaz. from places like phase2motortrend.com, projectsilvia.com, japanparts.com. etc etc. also phantom grip if your more "economical". theres a list of which ones will fit on 240sx.org under "installs"

^--Well.. I wouldn't say the z32 or j30 would work with no modifications.... for those, you'll either need certain output shafts or axles... but if it's from another 240, you're good to go.

i would suggest a helical, or clutch type though if ur planning on getting an older one of the 240 ones the viscous-ness can wear down

I came across a website(http://www.ka24development.com/vlsd.html)stating that the 95-96 j30 diff has the same bolt pattern as the s13. but most of you guys are saying that i'll have to do some mods for it to work. which is it?

could i use a s14 lsd in my s13 and have no problems or have to do any mods to make it work?

You will have to change the rear cover out and do something about the front rubber mounts.

you just have to put some bug *** washers on the diff mount. the ones towards the front of the car.the S13 diffs are solid mounted. S14's and J30's have a rubber bushing.that's it.plug and play. you can use any pre 95 j30 diff if you get the axels.

okay let me get this straight now, i can use the 95-96 j30 diff, as long as i change the rear cover and something about the mounting bushings.

has anyone used the j30 lsd? if so what do you think of it.which lsd would be best for drifting. im guessing any of them would work.

according to the drift bible vlsds arent ideal for drifting, but i have an open diff, so i wouldnt know, but i would also like to know how well some people do at drifting with a vlsd. but obviously a clutch type ($$) would be better than a viscous.

it transfers power equally to both wheels, without it, drifting is kinda hard

i have a question about clutch vs. helical, i was on club4ag and was reading their differential faq, and then went to the kaaz homepage, but i from what i read (yes it was in scc, but still) they made it sound like a helical is better for road-racing. they kept mentioning the "massive understeer" that a clutch-type causes and made it sound like a clutch-type was good only for drag-racing. im sure that they have ulterior motives for promoting the helical (just as they did for promoting that overpriced undersized turbo) but i was wondering if anyone that had a clutch-type could shed any light on this, thanks. basically, i was planning on going with the kaaz, scc is in no way changing my decision, i was just curious.

yah i'm confused on what kinda lsd to get also. i'm not gonna get a vlsd cuz i heard they kinda lose their touch after 100k miles on em.

i was thinkin of gettin a kaaz lsd, apparently it has 16 clutch plates. what does more clutch plates do?

240marcuSX- how do you have an open diff? whats it mean in other words.

im curious too, what is the differences between the three different types of lsds?

do certain cars have a helical or clutch type? (ie j30, z32, etc)I'm just looking for something that will be easy to install. I know of someone that used the 300zx axels and lsd, he has to shorten the axles, balance them them install it all. I dont want to do all that work.

I never heard of using the 300zx axles with lsd swap..

Lots of how-to websites mention that you should use the j30 axles with the 300zx differential. You won't have to do all that work if you use the proper axles.

And if you want to know the difference between the different kinds of differentials, you should do a search on this site, on google and read the article on howstuffworks.com... you should at least know what an lsd does if you plan on putting one on your car
