Hey everyone, im kind of new to this. Im planning on starting an s14 project and looking into lsd. Can someone explain to me the advantages and disadvantages of it. Im going for a 300rwhp daily driver for drift and drag on weekends and plan on going ka-t. Any recommendations as to what I should do? I hear a 1.5 is good for what I am aiming for but I don't know brands or prices. Any help would be appreciated.

... I'm looking for responses based on experience.... Not book facts. Most websites are consumer based, of course they are going to say that their product is the best

There are still plenty of user reviews on this site, you just have to search for them.

If you want to be able to drift and drag, then I suggest a 2 way. Clutch type units are good. You can weld your open diff and it will be a 2 way, but it will be permanently locked, and pretty dangerous in wet weather.

You should be able to read the "book facts" and figure out which one would be best for you.

My experience with various forms of 'LSDs'

Welded Stock Diff (Lincoln Locker)-Not good for daily driving, or AutoCross. Awesome for Drifting.

VLSD (Stock from ABS cars)-Not good for cars with lots of power. Good for bad weather and occasional autocross.-I drifted a track for about 3 hours with this diff. Then it screamed for 2+ hours home and I still don't know what's wrong with it. Nothing broken/locked up.?

There, that's all I got. I've never owned a real LSD 1,1.5,2 ways...

I would say if your car is an occasional drag car but mainly dd you should be fine with a vlsd. I got my a couple years ago of ebay for about 400 and also got 4.40 gears. I would say I got my moneys worth.
