hi, i have did a search on this topic, however i was not able to find anything that relate to my question. Ok, my question is if i swap in a nismo 2way lsd in my open diff case. I've read that it would fit, but would it over heat? since the open diff case doesn't have the heatsink flanges...(on the cover?!) but the ones with stock lsd its got the heatsink flanges already on the case over that is. so, is it likely for it to overheat? or .... thanks..

i've circled the flanges? heatsink?

Anytime you are driving hard all fluids will get heated, if you are worried get synthetic type oil to help oil breakdown and also I've seen some companies make LSD oil coolers and such. To answer your question, yes, the LSD without the cooling fins will not be able to cool as well as the fined covers. I think there are aftermarket companys that make bigger fins covers as well.

i worked on Nissans for awile and i have seen a few VLSD diff with no motorsport back plate. only the 300zx came with cooling fins in the US.

ok, i've seen a greddy one but it needs a pump of some kind for the oil to circulate?! i think ARC makes one too but not so sure. as far as the fins can i buy a lsd fines case cover that will bolt on to the case that i have right now? my car is 95 240sx Se. and yes is open diff. my concern is LSD overheating, but just normal street driving+some weekend hard driving ... the fins shouldn;t really matter? or should i get a better case since i am upgrading to new LSD anyways?

Well about the oil cooler thing I think I saw a company in the US that makes it. If you have open diff. then I am assuming that it is the R200. Stick with this diff case. My friend from Japan tells me that when Toyota owners upgrade diff. they switch to Nissan R200 diffs.

If you are just daily driving with occaisional hard driving then this shouldn't be a problem with overheating. I don't think you have to worry about it so much unless you go to some driving event every weekend. Just use synthetic and you should be fine.

I have been racing with the R200 diff for a long time. Heat is not really a big issue. Use good synthetic lube (redline, valvoline, Mobile1) and you won't have any issues.

ok, thanks for the input guys. howeve, if assuming i got the r200 on my car, i mean those come stock in 95+ 240sx right? or just SEs? for lsd upgrade do i just get the lsd unit itself? or do i need the kit? ie, the NISMO 2-way GT-pro. coz, i orginally have read somewhere that i need the kit for the upgrade, but i am not so sure about that anymore. thanks again : )

I haven't read all the replies

BUT, I can tell you that if you put the 2-way in your current housing without the finns, you will not have any problems of overheating..

I know several people who have that in their OEM diffy and it is absolutely fine..

don't worry and just do it!
