I've got a 300zx na diff on the way for a 98 240sx se (no stock lsd)

Since it looks like my output shafts from open diff wont work in z32 diff, is it possible to tear apart the output shafts and transplant the ends for the 240sx axels onto the z32 internal parts?

I can get j30 axels for $35 each, but I would rather not spend any more money than I have to.

Thanks in advance.

Just bought my j30 left and right rear axles from a junkyard in Little Rock Arkansas for $35 each + $30 shipping.

I used this http://www.car-part.com/Services/dealers.htmto find them.

I just hope I read right that the j30 axles bolt right up to the na 300zx diff.

Any special parts I need to replace the rear axles before I start this weekend?

the j30 axles will bolt right in; both-- the 240 hubs and the z32 output shafts

sorta on topic, but would the 300zx axles work since obviously it has same output pattern, but since Im using the 300z knuckles will the axles be too long/short? or will it work as Im praying it will?? I asked this in the 300z brake sticky but no reply in like a week.

Thanks, Josh

I've been wondering the same thing nolaw...'cuz i'm getting some 300z parts for cheap...and this may be a cheaper way of going at it than buying output flanges...

plus you save like 8 lbs each side in unsprung mass, thats quite alot to me. that and the 300z axles are also alot stronger from what I understand, so how could you lose?

anyone got an answere?? Right now I dont have access to my car, otherwise I would have already tried it.

The length of the na 300z axles is different. Also, since the shafts are beefier you cannot just swap the inboard cv joints.

I made a very similar thread about two weeks ago. My question was if the output shafts from the s14 lsd(open dif) can swap into the z32 vlsd. Some one had told me the only way that would work is if I had the s14 lsd output shafts machined shorter to allow room for viscous coupling. I gave up that Idea becasue machine work isn't cheap.

About the J30 axles out of curiousity, I checked to see how much they were brand new when I was looking for mine . I don't remember the exact price, but they were a little over $600 each axle. I don't mean to discourage anyone from buying new ones.

If anyone is curious, the J30 axles have been installed along with the 300zx N/A diff. I have pics, but they are not on my website yet.

It is awesome. It drives much better than before, feels more solid. Wet weather take offs from the stop light are much easier now as well.

The 300zx diff does weigh more than the open diff that was on the car. My sore arms can vouch for that. It feels good though.

I guess either suspension or exhaust is next. :)

Too bad 99% of the exhausts for the s14 look rice. I dont want a car whose *** looks like it just got out of prison.

Cool beans. Thats dirt cheap for a diff. Mine was $300 shipped from CA. It's practically in new condition though.

I also had to buy about $80 worth of misc tools to get old diff and axles out and the new in. 36mm socket for axle nuts, a flexible 1/2" joint for my torque wrench to get the bolts off the diff that are blocked by the spare tire well, liquid wrench, a big mallet, a 14mm wrench for the bolt and nuts the hold the drive-shaft to the diff because a socket wont fit in there, etc etc ...
