1. Orange sticker on the side says LSD
2. jack up the back of the car and spin one wheel. LSD should turn both wheels.
3. Rev to 3k drop the clutch and see if you make one mark or two.

*I do not condone third option*

there is a problem with this that I remember being talked about in a really old thread, wasn't ever resolved I don't think.

the orange sticker can come off....it's a sticker. and the other options only only tell you if you have a "functional" vlsd. what if you have one but it's gone bad? this is important because the vlsd and open diffs use different output shafts, and this is why lot of after market replacement options come with the choice: for open diff or upgrading from vlsd?

I would think there would be a way to tell, some visual clue, which your car has. perhaps the output shafts themselves, being different between the two, has something that identifies what you've got. but unfortunately, I don't know what it is. and it would suck to have to buy new output shafts when you could have just bought the correct diff in the first place.

i second that!

sad thing is, some opens will leave 2 black marks from time to time.

jack the car up by the diff.
spin one wheel, other should spin in same direction if you have lad.
open diff the wheel spin in opposite directions.

Yeah but it depends if you're in gear or not..I can't remember what order it is.

In gear=both tires spin same direction
In neutral=One tire will spin the opposite direction

So there you have it. From the outside and r200 diff looks like every other. Now you can easily spot an ABS diff from a non ABS diff because they are different sizes.

If your VLSD won't work, Get one out of a J30 in a yard. $50- $120
