lsd model?

I can get my hands on the differential of a 96 240sx, but i don't know if this is a vlsd or a open dif. the car has gold lettering and leather seats so i'm guessing its an LE, does anyone know if they can with an vlsd?

well, yuo're gonng have to actually askt eh guy. If he lest you drive it, try doing doughnuts away from him. If you can make dougnuts successfully with two circle tire marks then it's VLSD. if it has open diff, you won't be able to do dougnuts at all. Well, maybe you mightbe able to, but you'll only have one tire mark making a circle, and the car will violently shake.

Basically, with the VLSD, you'll be able to do doughnuts with ease. With Open diff, it'll be a lot harder with only one tire mark (since the outer tire has to travel the furthest it'll spin faster than the inside tire.)

the problem with that though is that the car has no engine lol, cuz its in my car, and the fron is all cut up, it is a parts car and doesn't run. i just wanted to know if it had the vlsd because that way i could get it for really cheap. is there anyway i can find out without driving the car? oh by the way the car is automatic, if that makes a difference.`~swave

heres an easy way to check if you have an LSD

1. lift the back of the car with a jack, and jack from the rear end.2. spin one tire, and if the other side spins the same direction, you have an LSD. if it spins the opposite way, you have an open diff.
