hate to do this but im not having any luck finding info on how to tell what kind of vlsd i got.

I bought my diff from Jhot and I've only heard good things about them but this was my first purchase from them and it has to be exactly what they said it was suppose to be.

I bought a rb25det manual diff. i need the gear ratio it has which is why i need it to make right.

Thanks so much in advance for everyone's help

dose it say vlds on the rear cover? if you spin one axle shaft dose the other spin the same way? to tell the ratio you need to pop off the cover and count teeth

Yes, grab the one ear spin it and see if the other one spins the same way. Viscous. If it spins the opposite way, open. There is usually an orange tag on the VLSD's over here also.

And to find the gear ratio, you don't need to pop off the cover. Just spin the ear exactly one time and see how many times the pinion spins. If it spins around 4 and 3/10ths times, guess what gears it has

Chris said it. Exactly what I did when I got mine. 4.08 ratio for me, which was what I wanted.

no the orange sticker wasnt there...that is what first alarmed me so i hope it just came off.

if i remember correctly when i spun the axle while it was on the lift, no driveshaft connected, the other axle didnt move, does that make it non lsd?

thanks for the info guys

btw i was hoping there might be a easier way to find out the gear ratio without counting teeth

i dont know much about differentials but i jus reread the viscous coupling again.

i was thinking if there is no fluid put in the diff yet then no torque transfer will occur, leaving the axle im not spinning to stay stationary, correct?

i also noticed that if the speed difference between the wheels is proptional to torque applied and i was barely moving it.

would this explain anything? or am i even right? thanks again for your help and guidance.

still is there no PN stamped on these pumpkins? or what is it suppose to look like through the output shaft holes if i take those off?

oh one other question...can you actually count the input pinion teeth by just taking off the rear cover? the ring gear seems way easy

looks like it would be hard to see the input pinion though and i still have to count them right?

thanks again for helpin with final drive ratio and checking lsd
