You can get a full J30 LSD here in the US for that much, and it'll bolt in. It costs alot to swap in ring and pinion gears, etc. Search around http://www.car-part.com for a 95 and up J30 center chunk/differential/rear end. I foudn quite a few in my area for less than that guy wants for just the gearing.

seriously? When I was looking at the bid it was 92 bucks, but final bid was 202... so J30 LSD will cost less than 200? I'll need it sometime this summer, so I hope it doesn't cost too much. But also, the LSD sold there was not just an every day viscous one, it was a NISMO 2 way. Those are really expensive and according to people VERY good, and also I'd be doing my own work, not having someone put it in for me, so no extra costs there. But what's gone is gone... it would have been a direct plug in though... oh well. I'll be looking for the 95+ j30 ones then. Thanks for the tip.

update: Just looked on car-part website. for a '95 j30 LSD in ALL states. It found about 6 and two of them sell for 350 bucks, the rest says "call for pricing". That kind of money can get you a brand new viscous LSD.

They run between 200 and 250, depending on location, condition, miles, etc. Unless you are an uber-experienced and proficient trained mechanic, swapping ring and pinion gears is probably out of your league. I watched a trained mech swap 4.56 gears into a 240 and it took him close to five hours being incredibly meticulous. Also, a 2 way can get a little harsh on the street, a VLSD is the way to go if it's going to be a street car.
