I just read through the page on LSD's (http://www.240sx.org/links/installs/lsd2/index.htm) and since it doesnt mention the years of the 240sx which are compatible with the Infiniti J30 I'm guessing the year of my 240sx (92) doesnt matter? I guess a better question would be are all 240sx stock open difs the same no matter what the year?

s13 & s14 will both work.

For your s13, remember to either get a j30 w/ the diff mounting (carrier?) bushings & longer bolts, or purchase the bushings & bolts - you need this to seat the j30 properly - some ppl have been ok w/ it, some have had their subframe crack.

Other than that, all you have to do is swap the rear cover (and refill the fluid of course).

s14 open diffs are different - and actually are a complete direct replacement (no rear cover swap) w/ j30 diff (if 6 bolt).

My buddy just installed his j30 diff a couple nights ago on the s14.

I just did my 89 last night w/ swapped rear cover & bushings.

i have a 300zx vlsd, what do i need and from what year j30? is it the flange that spins on the diff, or is it the actual axles that attach to these?

if you have the 5 bolt output flanges then you need the pre 95 j30 axles....if you have a later 300z rear with the 3 sets of 2 bolt pattern then you wont need the axles

the crack happens if they do not use the bushings and bolts? or did you mean that the subframe still happened to crack even with the bushings and bolts?... I jus wanna be sure before I go to a yard looking for the J30

if you dont use the proper bushings and bolts the rear end can torque hard and rip out the shorter bolts and strip the threads in the subframe...i dont know about cracking but it can drop the rear end out of the car without the proper support...you should have no problems if you get the bolts and the bushings from a lsd car
