(In fact I used the power from the original harness which you indicated is the white wire from the 3 pin plug to switch the relay. This way the coils receive power when it was originally desired).

I have the same problem and my setup breaks up at 4500 rpms and I cant seem to figure out why. I can rev to the limit but I can't boost past there. I've got Carl H by me and we are both lost as to what it could be.

We've checked fuel pressure, maf, plugs, I even swapped it for the wasted spark setup (that I thought was bad) still does the same miss at ~4500.

I'm using the green relays.

Is your car maybe in limp mode? If you unplug the maf does anything change

I've found out why I still can't get a tach signal with my Dakota digital SGI-8. I emailed DD tech support and they responded really quickly. They told me that with DIS I will need to get a autometer 9117 tach adapter. To feed the signal to the SGI-8.

So I ordered one this morning hopefully tonight or tomorrow ill have it.

Meet07 - Please..... tell me how you wired your 9117????

I wired it to a Signal coil power wire.
I'm still getting NO SIGNAL from the 9117.
The Car does run fine though.

I have 2 sets of directions for this box.
1 says for the LS V8 to hook up to 1 pink wires (12v trigger)
The other one says to hook up to 2 pink wires (12 V Trigger) one on each bank of the V8.
I'm only using 6 what do I do??/

OK I called autometer today and spoke with the tech support Guy who wrote the instructions. The instructions are not exactly clear.

So actually the 9117 needs to hook up to the 12v power wire that feeds all the coils.

Also there are two set of instructions for the 9117.

Take a look at these instructions which I followed:

Image

Here are the other instructions:
It does say to get the pink power wire from both banks, but does not specify the wire that feeds all the coils.

Yea it is looking for the current draw during dwell of the coils to figure out RPM. So having it on the main power line feeding all the coils is probably the best place for it. Although doesn't it have some adjustments in it for number of coils, wastespark, etc? That is how you calibrate the RPM.

It seems that this box is smarter than me. LOL

I also have a sgi-8 to change the signal if need be. But my defi tach has multiple cylinder settings too.

What you have to do is wire the two red wires into the 1 power wire that comes from the Relay.

I Finally got my Tach Signal working.
I checked it against my SAFC and the Consult, and it looks dead on. :-)

If anyone needs some coils I'm trying to sell a set of 8 LS2 coils with the heatsinks. Bought them to put on a VH project and decided to keep my stock coils. Make someone a good deal on these....

$175 shipped in the US!!!!

Quick question: When you do this, does it make your OEM tach stop working?

EDIT: ie i have the DOHC tach working in my RB right now.

Surely you meant cylinder number order ie 1-6 from front to back, not "firing order"?

No idea. My tach wasn't working at all before.

Good catch.
Thats the Cylinder #, NOT the firing order.

Here's what I came up with. I suppose its a hybrid of Sil240s method and another members on here whose name I forgot, sorry!

Looks flimsy in the pic but thats 1/8 steel and threaded rod; it's very solid.

Did you forget my name? hahaha jk man. :poke: I used 1/8" aluminum angle to fab up my brackets in the same location as yours. Worked out pretty well for not having a tig welder to actually make something nice.

Image

WhatsaDSM's was in the same place but he used an aluminum plate (0.050").

Awesome write up. I have a qustion though. I'm getting a series 1 rb25. Is it pretty much the same as far as the coil swap goes? Do I need to do anything with the ecu?

Guys I have an issue. After reinstalling my RB30 now with a 26 head I'm getting DTC 21 - Ignition coil primary and its slightly misfiring at idle and cruise, boosts great though lol. If i clear the DTC in consult it comes back immediately.

I can't for the life of me figure it out, I checked all my wiring and tried to isolate which cylinder the misfire is and I'm having real issues. Could it be anything else? Another sensor or something?

Edit: Just took her out for a spin. Over all it really drives nice. Boosts great, accels great, but cruise she's missing ever so slightly and same at idle.

Just bumping this thread to say thank you lol. I got my harness made by Mojo performance but it was set up for the RB25. Had to repin the plug to get the firing order right and your thread saved me hours of leg work.

I just bought all the parts to do this conversion as well. Yellow4g63, I like how you have the coils mounted. Can you go into more detail about the plug wires and how each coil is mounted to the brackets you made? I have access to a water jet and think I'm going to try and copy your brackets.

I didn't make it lol, Mojo performance makes the bracket and the harness. The heat sink and plug are cut out and it fits snug on top then bolted down to the head with the stock locations for the oem coil holders.

you also need to take the mount off the coil it peels off with little effort.

for the boot end Onispark part number cp059 comes with a boot and spring that will fit inside the coil and contact the spark plug. I'm going to get them since I just cut the stock boot and forced them on to the LS2 coil pack.

I think I understand. Basically the coil is held vertical by the boot (OmniSpark CP059) and then the brackets trap the coils on the heat sink and plug to keep them from falling over or popping off and the coils don't actually bolt to the bracket?

Thanks for the response. Pretty novel idea. Definitely the best packing I've seen so far.
