Just curious, anybody have a ballpark figure as to how much it would cost to swap an ls1 into a 240 if I did all the work myself?

Do they make full swap kits now?

I'm planning on rebuilding my ka24 this summer but I've toyed with the idea of throwing an ls1 in. ka-t is fun and all but I want something a little more reliable, and something different.

While I'm home for the summer I'll be able to use our shop and my dad is a diesel tech. and has been working with car's all his life so I'm not worried about being able to get the job done. I figured if I could save a good amount of money doing it myself it might be worth it.

IMO I dont think it would be good for a daily driven car. Fabrication is a must. A few placs sell kits, the better of the 2 is daft innovations. their kit doesn't require notching the x member.

Its not cheap brother. Granted a LS1 motor set may run 2500-3500 bucks but count on it nickle and diming you to death.

To do the swap and buy all the parts needed...I'd say it's safe to say you'll probably spend from 5 to 7 grand. Unless you can find motor and transmission cheap..Plus swap kits are starting at around 1500, then the fabricating. Yea..seems about right.

I agree. There are many v8 options. ls is prolly one of the more pricy ones.

if you buy the motorset its big monies. I bought my short block for 100 bucks... sold it for 500. There are many of ways to get around the big dollar amounts, but it still isnt "cheap" compared to other swaps. As far as I know there isnt a whole lot of fabrication that needs to be done. do some research. Its been done enough to have a collection of info floating about. join an ls1 site even (great way to find secrets in swapping)

WARNING!!!OPINION FOLLOWS!!!-If i were to go V8 the Ls swap would definately be the one. Perks of this are hugeeee:

1) a completely dressed Ls motor+ t6 weighs 5xx lbs. Cant remember the exact number I believe its in my bulid thread in my sig though(one of the last pages)

2)-Swap info is being collected as its becoming more frequent, as are swap parts/kits.

3) Aftermarket for this motor (its american parts are everywhere)

4) Factor in the price, say 7k, The camparable power/price would be like an Rb26..even then the power numbers are close, but you have an N/A motor.

5) Gas mileage would be pretty good.. probly close to upper 20's close to 30.

6) reliability. These motors are built beautifully, and arent high strung "race" motors like other swaps...its docile enough for a daily, but when you feel the urge, stomp on it and it has enough power to compete with vettes.

7)V8 sound. And when/if you cam it...you get a sexy lope.

/opinion

8K for a stock swap after it nickles and dimes you seems right. My swap ran me 12K. But I did mine before they sold kit so I had to have mine fabricated. But this included the fuel cell and all my autometer guages, and some add on parts. I then put 3000 into the engine itself and a G into exhaust. Makes great power.

As far as pics. Just search my user name.

I'm planning to go LS1 (LS2 if i can afford it) next year. I originally planned to go KA-T because i already have a GT30R, FMIC, injectors, wastegate, BOV, E-Manage and alot of other stuff laying around from my last project car but i really think a LSX is truely the most cost effective way to make 300-400whp. Yes a LSX swap is not going to be cheap or easy but with a tune and a couple bolt ons you will have a full power band (tons of torque at any rpm) and a motor that should last you the life of your car without popping as well as being very streetable.

The kit i have my eye on at the moment is from Sikky.http://sikky.com/products/moun...240sx
