I replaced the rear wheel bearings in wy wife's g35 and got it all back together and the drivers side rear caliper is locked with the piston fully extended. I bent the handle on the c-clamp and it didn't budge?? Is there a locking or racheting system on the rear claipers like you see on some GM cars??

I have not tried to bleed the pressure off or remove the cap yet but I've never seen one stuck like this.

Any help would be great.

There are no slots and they DO NOT screw back in like older maximas.

Damn, crickets.....

I took the caliper apart to rebuild it. Cleaned everything with a embry cloth and felt good about the rebuild but I can't find a kit. Every parts store say they have it but none of them are even close to the right size o ring and dust cover. Oh well, guess I'll spend $180 on a new caliper. :frown:

Hey there, sorry about the delay

I would wager that the caliper was stuck first and causing a rolling thumbing noise at highway speed, if the bearing was bad it could have been most likely caused by a slowly failing caliper increasing the drag on the wheel.

The noise is usually caused by a damaged rotor, however wheel bearings are not unheard of.

Replace the caliper, pads, and rotor. They have all (most likely) been exposed to excesseive amounts of long term heat... Enough to damage the wheel bearing... Your wifes car deserves safe brakes.

Look at getting one loaded caliper and at least 1 rotor at least.

Your theory seems spot on. I replaced the pads and rotors on the rear and the drivers side hub and wheel bearing. Car rides much quieter and I think it was a combination of both the caliper and the wheel bearing but I don't know which failed first but your discription is spot on.
