I am looking to change the look of my car, I just wanted to know if it is better to lower your Sentra first or get rims first? I would like to lower it at least 2 inches and go with a 215-40-17 set up for the rims and tires. Would this work and which lowering springs would be best for this? I know that this is probably some where on the forum but I can not find it.

Thanks to all of you that will reply.

If you're going at least 2 inches I'd suggest getting some high performance struts from koni or tokico as well

If you drop just on springs your ride quality will degrade quite quickly

Drop first, then get wheels.Although I've always gotten wheels first

More than 2 inches and it will be slammed to the point of being useless over speed bumps and uncomfortable on pretty much any road. I'm only 1.5in down and I still scrape my exhaust on occasion.

215/40/17 is good for a GXE.

Find one of the more cosmetic springs (I think TEIN has one, maybe Tanabe as well) and get some KYB GR2's to get that drop, otherwise it's going to be very stiff as a true performance spring with that kind of lowering pretty much has to be.

Hey guys, got a question for you all. You c I just bought a set of Megan Racing Springs to lower my 06 but I was wondering if I should also get Struts or shocks? Or do you think I could just do with springs for now. I'm asking this because I've heard that if you only install springs the ride quality won't be all that better than the stock. I also heard that it puts a lot of stress on the stock endlinks and ball joints. So what do you think, can I be ok with only the spings for now or shold I really think about getting struts and shocks? Thanks for the help.

Do you happen to know the lowering and/or spring rate of them?

More than an inch and pretty much any stiffer than stock and you need struts. KYB GR2s are the cheapest and softest options.

If I'm not mistaken it's a 2" drop.

I have the KYB AGX and I'll never go to anything else ... the GF drops the damping rate so she can drive it in the city and I crank them tight when I wanna play ... although they only have 4 settings they adjust damping and rebound with one dial ... and the difference is very great. I run 4 on the front and 2 on the rear ... turns my NX into a whole new monster.

There are no AGX's for the B15. The Koni Yellows are the only true performance strut available besides coilovers. I love mine aside from the fact that the fronts are shock inserts and, therefore, have a little bolt holding them into the original housing. The bolt loosens over time. I've Loctited one side and am waiting for the other side to get loose again before I bother with it.

If I may make a suggestion, since I have been riding on my Tanabe springs for just a little over a week now I can honestly say they're a great spring.

I went with the GF210's on my B16, however Im still riding on stock struts while I wait for high performance aftermarket options.

Anyway, the ride feels pretty close to stock, and my drop was only 1" rear, .8" front. Make sure you check out what Tanabe has to offer if you just want springs for cosmetic reasons

I just got a quote for $525.00 for some adjustable coilovers. This includes installation, guy said that they would be drop zone coilovers. I thought this was a rip off. Has any body ever put adjustable coilovers on their car???

Thats not a rip off, thats a joke for $525 installed? Thats how much my springs alone cost me installed.

A good set of coilovers will easily cost you over $1200. You gotta pay to play..Of course, I'm talking in Canadian dollars, but either way a $500 set of coilovers will be garbage, unless they're used or something?

I've never heard of drop zone. Go with a bigger name like Tein, Tanabe etcMaybe try contacting bilstein or KW?

But with coilovers you'll probably have a pretty stiff ride. You're better off going with a good strut + spring combo

Drop Zones are just springs with adjustable sleeves that allow you to change lowering, like Ground Controls.

TEIN and K-Sport both offer fairly streetable, inexpensive coilover setups.

Well after doing my research I decided that I will go with one of the following springs paired with kyb gr2 struts. I’ve read nothing but mostly but mostly good reviews on the tanable springs.

1. Tanabe NF210 Drop Springs- this is a drop of 1.3 inches in the front and 1.1 inches in the rear.

2. H&R SPORT SPRINGS- This is an approximate drop of 1.5 in the front and 1.4 inches in the rear.

3. Tanabe DF210 springs-This is a drop of 1.8 inches front and rear.(These might be to low)

As far as I know KYB GR2 are OE replacementsI think KYB AGX is what you want

H&R springs are pretty aggressive, but teamed up with good high performance struts they'll treat you well

Again, there are no AGX's for B15's.

The reason I've suggested GR2s is because they're OE replacements that can handle a lowering springs, and the goal here seems to be the drop itself, not a big increase in handling performance.

The H&R's are pretty stiff, and may be too much so for GR2's, which are relatively soft. If, as I've assumed, this is a cosmetic drop, get either of the Tanabe's, as they're both cosmetic springs. 1.8 will be low, but not absurdly so. As long as your roads aren't really bad and you don't spend much time going over very tall curbs/speed bumps, you'll be fine with 1.8in.

If this is more of a performance thing, get Koni Yellows and the H&Rs and you'll be tearing up curves in no time. That setup is equivalent to my Yellows/Sportlines combo, so I can attest to how good it is.

Thanks for the advice, the tanables were my first choice. I’m not really worried about performance with this particular car so this is for cosmetic and the roads in my area are pretty good. I think the 1.8 inch drop would be good enough to close the wheel gap and not worry about rubbing issues on a 17 inch wheel and tire set up.

With a 215/40 and a proper offset, rubbing won't be a problem at all. Go for it.

Go With COILOVERS!! DUDE!! allways remember your going to put NEW rims on the car so, It's going to drive differnt plus Coilovers are better and last longer too and handle better. Plus If you get Ajustable coilovers you can go higher or lower depending how YOU want it.

Coilovers run about: $ 880 +

Springs and KYB AGX =$ 840 +

PLUS Install = ____$$$

Now if you have time go check on Youtube.com and check out: How to install coilovers on a car and they will show you step by step on how to put a coilover kit on the car. PEACE !!
