I got a 2004 SE-R...I'm looking at some Tein lowering springs...lowered about 1.3 front and rear=1.1. Will I need anything else such as shocks or can I just use the springs?

Normally, OEM shocks are designed to take on the shorter springs. They will have premature failure. THere might also be different handling characteristics as well. Not saying it can't be done. But you will end up buying shocks sooner than necessary. Might as well get some when you buy the springs.

Even Spec shocks fail sooner with aftermarket springs.

It should work for awhile, especially given the softnes of those springs, but you're going to wear out the shocks sooner. IMO you should get at the very least a KYB GR2 (which are stock replacements with a little more flexibility when it comes to lowering), but that's debateable.

In other words, yeah, that setup is fine, it'll just wear faster than getting more lowering-designed shocks.

Just get TEIN coilovers...duh. Yeah it would be very beneficial if you the struts are after market too and not stocks cause they will wear as previously stated by everyone else.

I dunno about The KYB GR2's. A friend of mine put Tein springs on the KYB'son his 98 Sentra SE,after we bolted everything up and took the car for a ride, it just bottomed out. IMO if u go with the Tein springs look into Koni Yellow dampers/struts.It also has to do with your driving style + road conditions where you live. Poor roads will make ur struts life fade quicker.

I hear both ways- that GR2s work well with lowering springs and that they fall flat in a hurry.

Again, Spec shocks will do the trick at least for awhile, but there's instances of them going out pretty quickly with aftermarket springs. The best bet is to go ahead and upgrade to Konis, IMO. Leave them on the factory settings (full soft) and the ride is actually quite clean - stiff without being jarring, ladies love it, ha.

My opinion is to just go with full coilovers like the JIC FLT-A2s but they are pricey or just get some Tein SS coilovers.

Lowering springs will inevitably sag over time and the price you will end up paying for spring and dampers on all four corners will cost about the same as the Tein SSs.

Just get the Tein SSs for the same price or be a big baller and go with the JICs. I have the JICs and I love them.
