i installed coilover lowering springs this weekend in a 89 240sx (not top of the line, G2 or GZ or something) and the front of my car bounces when i hit even a little bump. is this normal? will they break in over time? is there anything i can do to stop/lessen the bounce? can this hurt my car?

this is my second car, not a lot of money, little experience, and my dads a carpenter, i'm kinda stuck.

thanx

lowering springs in general will cut down the life of stock shocks in no time. you need shocks that can tolerate the load placed from lowering.

then just put the stock springs back on before they become blown.

The spring rates and the valving in the shocks dont work well together. Either get some springs that were designed to work with the stock shock valving, like eibach PRO springs or save up and buy some 2 way adjustable shocks that allow you to adjust the bound and rebound seperately. The shocks WOULD be a much better choice BUT because you bought crappy springs you dont know the spring rates and you dont know if they are right for your car.

Either that or your shocks are blown, how low is the car?

how much were these "coilovers"

actual coilovers start at around $600 for non adjustable ones

well..... i bought them from my friend at work for about $50. they are ajustable, the problem is they are just generic, not specificly ment for a 240sx, so they dont really lower the car. it just sits a little below stock at lowest setting, but provides a stiffer spring. it handles better now so i think ill keep them for a while.

just remember am a unexperenced 17 year old with no money, so i buy "generic" stuff and make it work. im creative like that.

What you bought arn't coilovers, and they are just going to blow out your shocks. Since you are a just an unexperienced 17 yr old I would say start saving up to buy "real" stuff and really make it work.

i agree... suspension is something you dont wanna cheap out on, you dont wanna be on the side of the freeway 11 oclock at night because your suspension fell apart on you. imo, your better off with stock suspension until you can actually save up for some real stuff [safer too].
