After 155k miles on the stock suspension I've decided to tighten everything up and drop some money on new springs/struts. I got a pretty good deal on the Eibach Pro Kit, but I'm not sure what to buy for struts.

I've never lowered a car before, and although these springs are only going to drop the total vehicle ride height about 1.8" in front and 1.6" in rear, should adjustable shocks be used or does it matter? I was looking at some Tokico HP blues, I found 'em for a pretty cool price, but they're non-adjustable.

Has anyone used this Eibach Pro Kit on their 89 hatchback before? Is the drop of 1.8"front/1.6"rear going to be so drastic that I'll rip through non-adjustable shocks designed for stock ride height more quickly?

thanks.

i had tokico blues on my honda that was pretty well crushed, while it didn't blow them out,i wasn't really happy with the performance of the shocks. i have koni yellows on my 240 and also on my corrado , for anything short of a "full coilover" type setup the koni's are unbeatable.you'll pay a little more for them over the tokico's but the money is well spent. also if you're the wrench happy kindof guy some urethane bushings all around will dramatically improve your driving experience.

I used pro-kits and kyb agx's on my accord. It had a pretty hard ride. My buddy put Koni struts and Tanabe springs in his civic and that was even harder. It was pretty nice, but I wasn't serious about my stock accord, and my setup was cheaper. Although, you can adjust them, I found myself only setting the fronts different than the rears, rather than adjusting them for each ride. It gets annoying having to get under your car to adjust the rears. Oh yeah. The pro-kits also didn't lower my car at all. I don't know why. I took it back to the shop, shaved the bump stops, and still no drop. I prefer the koni's too. PEACE. Tek.

TC rod bushings, front control arm bushing, rear upper and lower control arm bushings, you can also get some rear subframe bushings/spacers that are a nice upgrade for the money. i think suspension techniques makes a full set of polyurethane bushings and i have all the whiteline bushings that you can purchase from pdm-racing.com

I have eibach pro-kits and tokico blue shocks on my 92 coupe. Overall, I'm not too impressed. It's a HUGE improvement over stock, but not nearly as good as some other setups out there. The drop is barely noticeable, I'm not even sure it lowers a full 1.8". A friend of mine has eibach sportlines and kyb agx shocks on his s13, and it feels much better than mine, and it's about 2" lower. The prokit/blue setup will give you a stiffer suspension, which will handle somewhat better, and is comfortable to drive everyday. If you're not looking for a really serious setup, that will work just fine.

Alright, thanks guys. That tells me all I need to know about the Eibach Pro-Kit / Tokico HP Blue setup, I appreciate the responses =)

So, sounds like for everyday driving this setup is stiffer than OEM and handles a little better. What about for a drifiting course?

Honestly this setup is kinda like my de-flowering, so to speak, on my own suspension install. Will I be able to drift decently? I've got Greddy front and rear strut tower braces installed - and, thanks to extheflow - bought some urethane bushings for the shock rods.

Lemme know guys, thanks!

I think the suspension will do you just fine as your first foray into drifting. I can guarantee you, though, that if you continue to drift, you'll start wanting a stiffer setup. Tein coilovers are excellent, but costly. Koni Struts will suit you pretty well, pair those with a nice stiff set of strings and you'll be set. Again, that's later down the road though. I'd suggest you get the pro-kit/blue set up for now. As you start wanting more stiffness, instead of going right for a stiffer spring/strut set up, add a rear lower strut bar, bushings, camber kits since they're cheap, then dump the cash for a stiffer set up if you're still into it. PEACE. Tek.

I have the pro-kits, and they do NOT lower the car as much as eibach claims. I havent measued the drop, but it is not more than 1". I did my research before I bought them and knew it wouldnt lower my car by the amount eibach says, but I didnt want it too low.

Yeah, I think it's safe to say that, regardless of Eibach's claims, Prokits don't lower your car. Maybe they do with stock struts, but definately not with stiff struts. PEACE. Tek.

getting a stiffer set-up is nice to have for drifting, but not as nice compared to having a softer set-up w/ a LSD.:D
