ok heres whats going on...i now have my struts (tokico hp) and springs (sportlines)...i am ready to have them installed but i need to know a few things about tire size and the amount of space that i have to work with...as of right now i am riding on 225/50/16 all the way around...as you may know these are not tires that are made to fit on the 240...i had to put a slight dent (nothing major) in the bottom of the factory front struts to get them to fit properly...they work perfectly when i am driving in a straight (sp?) line and even when turning...but when i back out of my driveway sometimes i will here a rubbing sound (as im hitting the gutter) this may be due to the fact that i have 12 year old struts and they are all blown...i had someone sit in my car and turn the wheel to the extreme left and right i did not see it rub on anything and i couldn't feel it touching anything...

when i install my new equipment will i still get the rubbing?...will wheel spacers help?...do i need new front tires?

i need as much help as i can get A.S.A.P. i plan to install this in the next week or so

Hmm that sucks..I'm sure there would be a way to fix it, I know some of you have 17"s on your 240's don't you? Woudln't that cause it to scrub more, and I've seen one or two with 18"s. Eh maybe I'm looking at this the wrong way and don't know what I'm talking about? Sorry I can't help you out.

i changed my tension control rod bushings(whiteline bushings from pdm-racing). Before this Ihad severe rubbing due to the fact that i to 17s + I have tokicos and sportlines. Now all i need is an alignment, but first i think some new spiffy rotors and brakes. If you can get this done it may help. My rubbing was so bad on the drivers side that it started to eat through the wiring harness. VVery Badddd. Aanyways peace and good luck!

One problem is your tires are too big. You should use a 205-50-16, not 225, to keep it closer to stock size.

Incorrect. He has the wrong offset. There are several 240's with wider tires here that have no problem. 245/40/16 fit nicely with correct wheels.

Wheel spacers are a half-a$$ solution to your problem and can exaggerate imbalances and cause premature wear on bearings and suspension parts. You bought the wrong rims, period.

Perhaps RedRocket can shed some light?

I was referring to the tire size recommendations on the tire size calculator. Search for it AZHitman, then you will see that it would be weird to put 245-50s as you suggest, and 215-40s like he wants. A 40mm offset is the same as stock, and wheels with lower offsets in S13 bolt patterns are very hard to find and expensive, especially 16s.

Roger that.

However, tire size calculators are notoriously incorrect for many applications. For example, several of us Q drivers have 255/50/16's, never a problem for that car. Usually, the "calculator" will say 235/65 is the widest combo available.

I have a neighbor with 245/40(?)/16's on stock rims on his 240 and it looks (and handles) wonderfully.

Didn't know about the "lower-offset = big $$$" issue for S13's - Thx for the edumacation.:D

I still think 215 is too narrow for the car, but that's my $.02.

Ok if you look at my pic of my s14 there are a set of mustang wheels on the car. The size of the rim is a 17x7 offset i don't know but I have a fullset of 245/45 17s all the way around. When I lower my car i am going to go for a lower profile tire which I recommend to anyone that lowers their car due to the issue at hand of rubbing and scrapping. Now the offset issue my opinion I have the 5 lug wheels due to having an SE so but the 4lugs wheels are the same size as mustang wheels for the old fox bodies do some reaserch find out what the offset is there for bigger wheels and I can almost guaranty they will fit

I am pretty sure that Fox body Mustangs have different bolt patterns even though they are 4 lug. However, if they would still fit I would be interested in some fake Cobra wheels. Has anyone tried that?Oh nevermind.New body mustang bolt pattern 5-114.3=5 lug S14Fox body mustang bolt pattern 4-108 not equal to 4 lug 240sxBTW I was really just using the tire size calculator to keep it close to stock diameter, I'm sure many sizes of tires would 'fit' under any car. No big deal though, and I'm not an expert. 245-40 is a lot different than 245-50 though.

you guys also need to take into account that those calculators most of the time will not take into account if you lower your car...when i bout the rims i did not know much about cars...i got them within a week of owning my 240...so theres nothng i can do about it now...the only solution i can think of is to get smaller tires...and if i need to have them look flush i will get wheel spacers...it may not be the best solution but it will work

I don't know how much your car is lowered, but the main thing is wheel width and offset that you need to look for.
