Oil pan shield is recommended if lowering. Honestly just bag it so you can raise it when needed

Bags are pretty darn easy to DIY if you have a source. Bag sets run from about 1k-6k depending on quality and what options you want to have. I can get you some actual quotes and options

Well the major issue with lowering many cars is bottoming out. On the G50 the oil pan is the main issue probably on the Y as well. Have you sourced springs? I can get some from japan new or used. New would be the best route I would hate to get you a bad pair of springs. I can source them and quote you prices... But for larger and items over 100$+ I ask for a decent deposit..... Inquire privately if you are interested

I have no issues with bottoming out and i have the Tein springs. I don't think you can hang in with the stock struts/shocks however. I got a set of the KYB SR Specials that made it perfect. I did it 5 years ago now and I have NEVER hit the oil pan EVER. I have scrapped the cat convertger but it has a shield.

You can get the Tein springs for $300 and KYB's for $550, but you have to do it all mail order from places since neither of these are offered by US distributors.

Hard to equate Tennessee roads {or many other states} to So. Cal roads,as I would assume the so.cal. roads are in much better condition than many States due to the mild temperatures and lack of salt use. Frost heaves, potholes, broken surfaces are much more a daily danger in areas that experience wild temperature swings and the resulting freeze/thaw cycles.

Yeah Tennessee roads are not the best at all, for about a month on my daily drive to school there was about 50 feet of road that was roughly 2 inches lower than all of the rest of the road but i see a fair amount of cars lowered here even though most of them are flat black ricers

The Tein KYB combo seem a bit pricey since for another $250 you can get Megan Racing coilovers.

Well this set is not in my possession but can be easily. This set is currently up for sale at a very reasonable cost. I don't buy bulky parts unless I have a committed buyer or I am personally using them.

Depends on the price, condition and available parts if they need to be rebuilt. Those green Tein looks like the kind where you lower the car by adjusting the spring collar.

If you get the Teins for about $300 and buy the KYB SR Specials from Memoryfab for $500 that isn't too bad. The issue with the Megans is that they require welding. I personally wanted 100% stock fit which i got. I wouldn't spend a dime on anything used for my Q, when I installed my springs/shocks I knew that this was the last pair/set that was going to get installed on the car. That was 5 years ago (only 15k have passed on the odo since then) and the car rides excellent and handles like crazy.

I speed up my hill out of town (I live in SF Bay Area no So Cal) which allows speeds of up to 80-90 MPH and I hang with all of them over the big sweeper turn at the top at 70-80 MPH. With stock it was scary doing that, with my current setup it is down-right safe.

If your very handy and can do the work yourself, do the Megans, but if your like me and have to pay others to do what they do well the springs/strut/shocks does the job very well.

Those Megan shown are the V2 which come with the Y33 spindle. Direct bolt on and no welding required. The V1 need the spindles welded and are about $200 cheaper.

I presume your selling those, if indeed Marksport can assure you a direct bolt on that might be a very good option. The KYB/Tein combo was a PITA to put together back when i did it, that was long before anybody on the board posted anything about the megan's.

what is the price on those??????

I don't own them but recently bought a Y33 to add to my collection of two F50 and a Y34. The megan sell for abour $1100 shipped on ebay so I might consider getting one. Parts Shop Max also has a coilover set for $1250, the brand that Kevin/FLS/Falk Designs got on his Y34. BC Racing also has some. All these are direct bolt on.

that would be worth it but are the Megas's going to ride stiffer than my setup you think? I hear Falk scored a Y34, I just don't drive my 97' enough to wear it out :), he was about the same mileage as me 6 years ago.

If the ride is similar to the Tein/KYB's and you can just them off eBay that is a great way to go. Getting the lowering springs and SR Specials is probably around that price (maybe a little less) and more work.

From the reviews I read, the ride is nicer that stock since you can adjust the ride height independently from the spring as well as not having the shocks bottom out on the older designs. You can also adjust the shocks as well. If you plan to slam the car, then you would need to order stiffer springs to prevent the chassis from bottoming out.

Interesting. Well I have to say I am 100% happy with the way my car rides. It doesn't bottom out and handles and rides much better then it did stock. Since I don't need the car in bad weather and I dont' deal with snow and ice it works.
