I want to use some E pistons in my DE, and i'm not a huge fan of the 11.1 CR, so I was wondering if any of the metal headgaskets mentioned in the posts below would lower the CR even a little to a little more manageable 10.7 or something, or if there was another way to lower the CR while using the E pistons.

using a thinner headgasket is possible, but you're going to have to really watch your piston to valve clearances. iirc, someone shaved down the sohc piston to lower the compression ratio.

I think you misundestand me. I want to lower the CR from 11.1. Is there a thicker headgasket that will do that? Maybe from 11.1 to 10.8 or something.

this is for a na ka i assume? Why do you want to drop the cr just a few tenths of a point? 11:1 will not be that much different from 10.8, if your going na you will want that higher compression ratio.

btw. where in washington do you live?

Yup, either way you're more than likely going to have to run an octane booster, 3 tenths won't change that. And yes, where in WA do you live?

I live over in the Renton highlands. Where are you from devious?

So no difference with 11.1 and 10.8 eh? Just a shot in the dark, i'm not wildly in love with THAT high a CR, and I was under the impression that with 93 octance I could run 11.1, with maybe a little retarded timing. I'm not gonna drop octane booster everytime i fill up my gas tank, so what does everyone suggest.

maybe you could machine down the E pistons a little, i dont know if that is possible, seeing as how i dont have one in front of me.What i do know is this. The problem here is that the circlip connection for the E pistons pushes the crown higher than the DE's.

circlip connections?

the flattop E pistons do sit slightly above deck height even in the E block. the dished pistons however are exactly like the DE pistons except it has less of a dish.

I live in idaho, lewis/clark area moved from seattle area. You could shave a bit off the top of the ka pistons but for the work involved not worth it for little change. You wouldnt want to take to much because ring land strength would become an issue.

So the concensus is that 11.1 is too high for 93 octane

no. 93 is the minumum you can run. if you have any detonation, retard your timing.
