on most pickups, s10's for example, you can lower the trucks by use of aftermarket spindles which actually raise the axle point on the spindle therefore lowering the vehicle.
being the spinle/axle is one piece, if you by a cheap one, they can brake. or if they are installed wrong they can break.
you arent changing out you spindle, or modifying it in anyway.
show/tell your parents. get some truck magazines, and some car mags, and show them the differences.

uh, doesn't matter. If you drop an S13 (don't know about S14's) more than an inch, you bottom out the suspension, misalign everything to the point that you need adjustable suspension pieces to get it right. The Eibach springs lower more than an inch (prokit and sportlines). Yokota is right and anyone with a lowered 240 can attest to this as well.
