Here's an issue you all have probably kicked around a hundred times, but I need help: I recently purchased a '90 240SX coupe (105k on the odometer - nice find!) with 17" wheels and low profile Zs. The wheel well gap is kind of ugly, but I don't want to sacrifice handling (would like to improve it if anything) or break the bank. The car also came with a nearly new set of KYB GR-2s. I'd like to be able to goes with 2" drop of Eibach Sportlines, but various people say 1.) The shocks can't handle it and will be less effective. Bottom out maybe. Blow out probably. 2.) You can't do a good alignment without buying a few aftermarket parts. What's the skinny? Can I go with the Sportlines or should I switch to the 1.5" Prolines instead? The cost a just couple of hundred bucks and a few hours work but is this worth it? My real concern is swapping out the open diff for a VLSD.

Thanks,

Well, I can't really account for the 240, but I did install a set of sportlines on my sister's 2000 V6 Accord and she DID need a camber kit...BADLY~! You might want to just check http://www.pdm-racing.com for some camber adjustment peices, you shouldn't need more than 1.5 degrees if I recall correctly. If not, you should have just a little negative camber to help with turns~!

Oh, and with the shocks, go with adjustables! I'm not sure about KYBs, I've heard bad news about them from my Honda days, but maybe its just prejudice...anyways, I think manufacturers make their adjustable shocks a bit more "abuse-able" than their regular non-adjustables. I've had the Tokico Illuminas on my Sol and they were flawless! (Ever seen a Honda del Sol drift? Hehhehehe~!) I know for a fact that if I went with the non-adjustable HPs, they'd blow form the load! Well, these aren't real "terminological" answer I've been giving you, but that's not what I'm trying to do. I just wanted to let you in on some of my experiences with shocks.

PS - Put it this way, if you've ever felt how it feels like to take a bad dip on the freeway going 90 MPH with blown shocks, you wouldn't think twice about paying more for quality shocks. (Adjustables, which in this case would be the AGXs)

Thanks for all the advice. I actually called Eibach this morning and the tech told me running the GR-2s with the 2" drop was not a problem. He did tell me, though, that to lower the 240 that far requires installing a front camber kit. The kit costs around 30 bucks.

I have sportlines on my 93 coupe. Looks great and doesnt have any visual camber problems. This isnt to say that it doesnt have any, but its small enough I cant see it.

haha man you will need no camber kit for the front wheels when lowering your car 2 inches, thats just eibach trying to make some more money off you. My car is lowered almost 3 inches in the front and camber still is not that bad. Now the rear is where 240's may have a problem you may want to consider a rear kit, but still even w/ just lowereing springs camber will not be extremly drastic!
