All the threads that I have found on lowering an m35x (06/07) have all been anywhere from 2-5 years old with no recent responses and/or updates as to ride quality etc.

My questions are:

1) Are Espelir Springs (From Burtman Industries) still the ONLY option for the m35x? It's been over 7 years since these are were introduced, I'm sure SOMEONE had to come out with something. (Nothing wrong with Espelir, just surprised how much control they have of the market).

2) RWD springs on AWD car .. Still a no-no? Excuse my ignorance, but can you/someone explain why?

3) People who are lowered, how many miles have you been driving like that? Any problems? Annoyances?

4) People that went from Springs to Coils .. Major differences?

Just like everyone else in all of the old threads (seriously couldn't find anything newer than 2011), I'm looking to stay with the most stock ride (soft, luxurious, ride) but with a more aggressive stance.

Thanks folks!

Been on coil overs for almost a year and the ride quality is harsh but it also has lots to do with our streets. I drive mostly on city streets and all of them are patched up so much it's worst than driving on gravel.

I chatted with the guy who orders espilier springs (Burt) and he no longer has any in stock. In order for the company to create another batch they require a minimum of 10 sets ordered. I don't think you will have a set anytime soon.

In general a cars suspension geometry is created to work optimally at a certain height and when you lower it you put the components under the car closer to the ground so the springs and shocks need to compensate, hence the stiffer ride.

Of course you already knew this and are still hoping you will continue to find a solution. Coil over options, there are 3 BC, ksport and d2. Of the three the BC coil overs are the best option, then d2 then ksport. Rwd springs will not work on the front so well. It's the spring rate that throws the front off. It'll be too low and bouncy with risk of bottoming out.

Thanks for the heads up! I've been doing some more research and after seeing that Burt won't have any springs for awhile, Coils are looking to be more and more of the likely option right now.

I've also been reading that the D2's are better than the BC's and nobody has really given a true definitive reason as to why. I've read that BC's and D2's are true coilovers, then somewhere it said that BC's aren't true CO's. (So confusing)

I live in Seattle, WA and I don't think that our roads are too horrific, but I could be wrong. They're definitely nothing compared to roads in Manhattan, that's for sure. I also have 91k on my 07 and when I did a once over on the ride before purchasing it, everything looked to be in great condition (recently replaced). What other parts should I be aware of that may need replacing at 90k?

Thank you for all the information! I'm excited to lower my car and get a more VIP stance to it.

D2's are true coilovers not BC or Megan

my M just hit 66k and the suspension is starting to drive me nuts, time for new shocks/struts/springs so i figured it means time to go lower.. and from what you said.. no espilier?? say it aint so!!! i should of bought them when i had the chance.. being awd is the D2 the best bet without going on air? i just cant give up the trunk space.. any recomondations for a full set up? dont want to be too harsh but i fully understand you gotta compromise some ride quality for the looks.. and being in Jersey after this winter the roads are horrible..

thanks for the tip on Sarona! definitely looking into that, as for going lower i was able to get a hold of a set of esplilier from Burtman. only reason i went that way over coils was cost and i heard good things about retaining ride quality with this spring set. Jason at Burtman also said he had more than one set left in case anyone was wondering.

I'm on KWV2's on my X... now for 30k miles or so. They are sporty coils, so ride is stiff, and I am slammed so anything higher than an ant is an issue. I do not like springs... They are close to oem ride-ability, but bouncy, in my opinion. The rear of the x is basically the same for the S or base models... so if you want to split it up, go ahead and find some rears... The front is a different story... if looking for a slammed look, I like D2, and I think they carry X parts. But just make sure whatever you buy is adjustable. aggressive stance + ride quality equals air. otherwise you are kind of stuck with springs, which as I said are bouncy...

You can call any spring makers and get some custom ones sent out... as in stiffer, softer, etc... but it is a pain in the a** and you need to know exactly what you want... I had to do this with my rears...

Anyhow. Good luck... x is sexy.
