I've been away from the site a couple of years, and just recently performed a search on the subject of finding a shorter strut, but found no answers to my question. So I'll ask it here:

I want to (I've previously lowered a '92 SX years back without any problems) lower a newly purchased '91 SX, but am very concerned about the top of the struts bottoming up against the upper spring perch. Are there any struts available, or procedures I could follow (much like I've done to shorten my strut tubes on my 240Z when I lowered it) that would allow me to lower the car while maintaining a respectable amount of compression movement without hitting the top of the spring perch. Even a modest lowering of 2" will cause the bumpstop to be extremely close to the top of the strut. My previous lowering experience using the yellow Koni shocks seem to work fine, but I'd like to go a bit lower with this one, and am looking for a better solution to the strut height issue.

i can only think of shorter struts for s14s. i wouldnt really worry about it. most springs for s13s lower like 1.5-1.8 inches. except eibach, but they suck dont get them. getting konis or agxs and adjusting them to be stiffer would help.

i think he wants to be able to have a nice lower stance and not have to sacrafise comfort with a stiffer setup. i would check the different struts physically and make sure all the harware is the same and find one shorter..mabey there is a site that would tell you somewhere...there are always bump stops

The comfort is not as much of an issue as hitting the bump stops or the top of the spring perch in a corner and losing it. Right now, I've got about 1" of compression travel (with stiff springs), and that's spooky in the wrong situation. I would just like to get the strut set back to the middle of it's travel window at the current static ride height. It was easy for the Z. Perhaps I could use the same Koni 8610 inserts, and modify the strut tube in the same manner as I did with the Z. What to the racers do, as surely they don't run the road courses with the strut compressed this much, do they?

This is correct...with companies like ksport and even apexi...for a little more money than what you would spend on springs and struts you can get a set of coilovers and be done with it...
