I am looking at a 2000 max se to buy. It has 160,000 on it and has been lowered. How do these cars handle being lowered? I don't think there was a camber adjustment or an alignment done when the springs were installed. Is there anything specific I should look for? Any help would be appreciated.

I used an Eibach Pro Kit and Tokico Illumina struts when lowering mine. No camber cam bolts were needed as it was still in manufac. spec. Alignment was needed. If the car was not aligned, you may have uneven tread wear. My car handles so much better after lowering it. I would never go back. The ride is really stiff but it handles great. Do yo know what kind of springs were used? Were the struts replaced? Look for rub marks on the inside of the wheelwells, and on all the places it could rub on the backside of the wheel. If there are rub marks, proceed with caution. 160k is a lot of miles for a 00. Check the usual, smoking tailpipe, dipstick(burnt oil), if auto, transmission fluid color, ask for service log. Auto or stick? If stick, check for clutch slippage.

As far as I know, only the springs were replaced with an eibach kit. I'm not too familiar with maximas, I've owned a 240 since I started driving but I'm permanently in Albany NY now so I need something that's a little better in the snow. The person selling it is not too knowledgable from what I've gathered over the phone. Yeah, 160 is high, but the asking price is only 4500, so it might be worth it even if I have to put a few bucks into the car. It's an auto but the price is right. Thanks for the advice.

If it's been lowered on the stock struts/shocks, plan on getting new ones soon...they won't last long.

Maxima's are good up to a 2" drop. If it is more than that (coilovers) a comber kit would be needed. As Scott mentioned, the factory struts should be replaced when possible.
