oh dang did you hit it with a wheel? Is there material removed causing it to be gray/white? Or is there some material added, like a scuff mark?

Ya I think that's what happened. I'm going to try to paint it, but I'll probably just buy a new part. Are there clips that hold it in place?

It is literally wedged in there. I tinted my own windows and I pulled the trim out in order to help adhere the tint to the portion of the window hidden under the trim. If you follow that trim piece around the window at one point it is split in half as the two ends of the trim meet. At this point you can pull some of it up and then just start pulling it out from one end. It should completely come out and it's really not hard to put back in. Just check with the other side to make sure every area is reinstalled as it should be!

no clips, it should be a full rubber coated metal piece if im not mistaken and you just squeeze it on in place

There are definitely clips on that piece. Someone tried to break in to my Coupe a while back and they did exactly what you did, pulled it up and bent it. I know for sure there is one right around where the door handle is, it was sticking right out at the very end.

What's worse is I tried it on the other side...that was previously undamaged. Oh well what's done is done.

At the time, I was painting the damaged side. So I tried taking out the undamaged side. Now both are messed up  Moral of the story: FML MY CAR.

I need to replace both of mine. The tint shop melted the thin edge on both of them with what I can only assume was a heat gun. It doesn't look bad, but it's not smooth anymore.
