can anybody please tell me an easy way to get the lower timing belt pully off! i'm doing a complete tear down and so far everything has come off with little problems. i'm down to taking the crank out but i can't get the pully off so i can get the oul pump off. any info or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. i've tried a gear puller but there isn't enough room behind the pully to get a grip.

First, call your Nissan dealer and order a new one from a 88 Pulsar CA18DE.

Second, dremel / saw / wedge+hammer your way through the damn thing, without damaging the crank of course. Order a new woodruff key (the thing that keeps the pully from spinning on the crank) while you're at it, as the best way to get that thing off is to do all the destruction right above the key, you have less pully to go through.

nope, trust me I tried.

I broke the dipstick section of the oil pump off on one of my motors trying to pry with two prybars, and I bashed the **** out my pinky on the motor mount when the prybar came loose

that took ~3-4 months for the pinky nail to grow back..

I think I'm the ONLY person that I've heard of that didn't have ANY problem getting the timing pully off. I sprayed some PB blaster on it a few min before I tried taking it off because I thought that it was going to be a pain. As soon as I took the key out the pully rotated! I think It took me a total of about 1 min to take that pully off. Lucky me!

thanks for the suggestions. unfortunately my key-way doesn't go all the way to the front of the crank, so there is no way to get it out. i'm just going to drill a bunch of holes and start cutting. wish me luck!

just for some info: i'm going to be going out to fontana next month for the jgtc event and try to get some inside connections on how to get parts directly from japan. if i have any luck i'll post it after the event.

my timing gear thingy was such a pain in the arse!!! it took us a freaking week to get it off. my dad finally made a puller out of a 1/2in thick plate of high-tensile steel and some super strong bolts (think they were arp) and it came off when we used that and put a torch on it, after soaking it in wd40 for an hour. it bent the steel plate in the process too! it was rediculous.

I drilled two holes in it, wacked it with a cold chisel until I split it in half. I wouldn't call that an -easy- way, but its effective. If you do the same just be careful you don't nick the crank with the chisel. Or your dremel, for that matter.
