I'm trying to replace the lower radiator hose on my 97 Sentra with auto transmission.

At th top of the hose I see a strap or loom around the hose which connects it seems to the oxygen sensor.

What is it?

Should I just disconnect battery ground and remove this strap/loom?

That strap is just for guiding the O2 sensor's wires. You can put the loop around the new hose or just cut it and let the wires hang.

I found out looking at the Chilton's pro thick manual that the part I'm talking about is called:

Water Temperature Sensor Switch Wiring

NOT to damage this component when replacing the hose, I should let the engine cool overnight and diconnect the battery negative?

Ahh, I was thinking up higher. Avoid damaging the wires and try to keep the loom.

Just in case, you might as well disconnect the battery, and letting it cool will allow the coolant to all settle so less of it goes everywhere when you replace the hose.

Any tips as to disconnect the lower radiator hose at the bottom where it connects to the radiator?

Without a lift, with my vehicle parked on my driveway. Crawling under.

Thanks.

Depending on how long your arms are, you may be able to get it from the top, though it depends more on how the clip is situated. Some pliers may be necessary to get a good handle on the clip. From the bottom it's quite doable, but stay clear when you actually pull it off so you don't get coolant all over yourself.
