i was trying to get the rear lower control arm off my 240 this afternoon to replace some bushings. after pounding away at the thing for a hour or two i gave up. i couldnt get the ball joint to come out. i had already removed the the bolts holding the inner bushings in and removed that side of the control arm and also removed the cotter pin and bolt holding the ball joint in but it wouldnt come loose. am i forgeting something or is there an easier way to do this?

you need a ball joint puller to pull the ball joint out.

I used a ball joint puller on mine and couldn't get it out either. I ended up taking it to a friends shop and being able to get under the car helped a lot. A couple bangs on the knuckle while using the puller did the trick. The other side came out real 'easy' though.

use some PB blaster or wd40. just tap the knuckle and tap the old ball joint if you are going to replace them. it will break lose eventually.
