i installed the 300zx lwr ball joint in my lwr. cont. arm. the ball joint seat must be different from Z32 to G50. the Z32 ball joint seats further into the G50 seat causing another 1.5mm to 2.5mm of the threaded portion to be exposed. also this crushes the rubber boot by the same amount. measuring the old vs. new at the beginning of the cone just below the threads reveals old (G50)to measure 16.2. vs new(Z32) 15.2mm. the question here is; will a Z32 ball joint seat fix my problem? the part # for G50 seat is 40173-60U02. Z32 # is 40173-33P00.

has anyone who has changed out there B.Js. experienced this?

All I have to say is Joe overnights.

You do have a G50, not a Z32.

El Capitan, I doubt that you'll get any help on your question here because I doubt that anyone has changed their ball joints ? ? ?

However now that you are there I would suggest that if everything looks like it'll hold together and the knuckle turns without binding then go with it. The dust boot being squashed somewhat should not be a big problem.

Is the reason for the ill fit a smaller or shorter ball on the replacement causing it to sit lower in the socket? Should be a fairly tight fit with no slop.

Is this a sealed unit for grease or do you have to install a grease "zert"?

Good luck. Jack

the taper that is on the Z32 is 1mm smlr. than the G50 causing the Z32 BJ to set that much further into the G50 BJ seat. all that i am trying to discover is what those that have done this before have encountered. if they just choose to ignore the fitment problem then so be it.

however, if we have posters saying yes the Z32 BJ is a direct replacement for the G50 BJ when they do not know that as fact.......well i think you get my point.

i have ordered the Z32 BJ seats to see if that corrects the problem.

some may say whats the big deal, all this over a silly little mmm. the Z32 can not have the same structural integrity.

just want the truth, i can handle it.

thx

I think it's a big deal, and as the G50 is 600 lbs. heavier than the Z32, I imagine that is why there is the difference.

Glad to see you solved the problem. But doesn't it suck to post a question, receive lengthy posts with no answers, and then reply to your own post with the answer?

You've done the board a great service by getting to the bottom of it. Now, we can refer new posters asking the same question to this helpful thread, sparing them the unpleasantness of the Sisters.

Gosh, from someone who doesn't even know if his car has HICAS or not and doesn't know what to look for?

"I don't know if mine has HICAS. My friend had it in his J30t, but I don't remember any specific indication of it's presence. How can I tell if my Q has HICAS? Or is it something that all Q's are born with?"

There are a few basic things [knowledge about their own car] expected of someone who has 1800+ posts.......................unless they want to be thought of by people as a post "lady of the evening" ?

Ok. It's what I said.

And?

I wasn't fortunate enough to get an owner's manual with my car, and the FSM I've been living off of is a 94. I just got my hands on a '90 FSM, but I haven't had a chance to really dig into it.

Forgive me for not giving a **** about HICAS.

I drive the car. I take it to the shop for oil changes and other maintenance. As much as I care about it, I don't know it in and out, and it doesn't look like I will soon.

About me not "remembering" about the HICAS in the J30, I was 16, it wasn't my car, and he told me about it. I wasn't ever given a name, just a description of what it did.

Call it what you want, it's not like I like you anyway.

King of Haiti, dont feel obligated to reply to every thread here, especially since it just highlights how little knowledge you have grasped from your time here.

Geez, if we get a few more of your type on here, this place will be so full of misinformation,it will be useless

I turned 60 a month ago nothing on earth can bother me now. Except for the thought that anyone of the 3 will be our new Mr/Ms Prez.

"To hell with both of you." and "it's not like I like you anyway"

MOMMA that old man is bothering me, but son, he has 40 years of practice and more and better education.

Actually we like every poster and only offer constructive criticism to improve the experience of everyone.

Notice I try to stay away from things I have no hands on experience with, such as G20, J30, I30, cetain mods, and leave those to their own group experts.

Your mother. Again. Hate to burst your bubble there cowboy, but I'll be here for a good long time. Guess who's ordering the chain guide kit as soon as he gets off work? That's right, yours truly.

Keep praying for my engine's demise, I've got Lou on my side.

I'd just buy another Q. And still be here.

Chump.

Don't mess with the bull young man. You'll get the horns.

Prodding? Your incessant pissing and moaning? All went unheeded. Don't know if you've noticed by now, but uh, I don't listen to you.

I do things on my own time. I now have everything at my disposal, with the exception of an appointment at Keith's. I'll set that up with Jeanine come Monday. Expect a little package in the mail cowboy.

Mentioning my school motto? Nice touch.

There's constructive criticism and then there's not. This isn't a Hollywood movie, where there's the young upstart who's pushed to the point of exasperation by some grumpy old man until he realizes his potential and thanks the old man for being a mentor.

Mr. Miyagi you're not.

A key quality of constructive criticism is positivity. It'd be nice to try it, eh?

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DENNIS!

Ya mon, 60 biguns. Arrived today myself. Thats cool.

Thanks for all you contribute.

I am reminded of 1 of grandfathers ''expressions''.

When i was 16 i couldn't believe how stupid my ole man was. By the time i was 21 i couldn't believe how much he had learned.

May the next 60 be twice the fun.

Too bad it isn't.

It's hard being young, though - I do remember that. You're expected to be able to make your way in the world of adults, but you're constantly getting things wrong - it's embarrassing.

Happy birthdays, old guys. I'll be joining you in a few years, myself.

It's doubly hard when you're narcissistic and HATE imperfections and contradictions. Imagine the mortification I've been enduring.

Thanks for understanding though.

Guys, have we lost sight of what it is & was to be the very young? When each new trend/fad/hip thing. Be it auto/fashion/Boonesfarm or whatever we thought it/that was the coolest hippest thing to come down the turnpike. Is there no one out there who remembers fender skirts, moon hubcaps, rolled & pleated interiors? We lowered our cars w/a torch, ran mismatched tires, added flame decals & added DUAL EXAUST w/glass pacs just to make it louder. Hell i ran straight pipes out the side of my 57 Ford. accelerate hard, shut off ignition for 3 secs. turn key back on & shoot a flame out each side 5' long. What a gas. Pun intended. Come on guys, lighten up on the young turks, the EL TIGRES of today. Yeah we can all complain about the hubris of youth, think the ''younger generation'' is naive and/or . In the end it's the same as it ever was.

Thanks for letting me vent.

Well said. We all also have to remember that keyboards don't have wry grins.

I had a 65 Chevy Biscayne with cam and headers, oversized tires, etc, nasty loud beastie. My friend's father used to make the run from the lake to town on back roads at 90-100mph in his new Ford, but when I drove him back to town once in my car, doing the same thing, he about pissed his pants - scared the living hell out of 'im.

Reminds me of this old thread:

Yeah, I remember doing all kinds of stuff to my cars as a college kid-removing cats, Holley 4 barrel carb and intake manifolds--unfortunatly,I had to learn the hard way some of this stuff actually decreased my engine life!!

On a side note, I just bought a $1200 turntable this week-first time buying and playing records in 23 years since I converted to cd only.Does this make me an ole fogey, or terminally hip? Gotta say, there is something about analog that digital just hasnt quite captured yet, not even the high resolution SA-CD that I have been listening to- but boy getting up every 20 minutes to flip the record over is for the birds!

Comfort zones sure depends who's got the wheel eh. I fly in a Bell Jet Longranger w/ a skilled pilot who honed his skills in a gunship in Nam. Everyone knows this unassuming man is THE best pilot in the biz. Nevermind, when we are tree top @ 100mph scaring large seabirds from nests in trees he has a little grin & i have a big grimace. He explains the unique benefits of ''auto rotation'' for helos. YEAH RIGHT! From an altitude of 75'. Not likely. Being a govorg we get to break all the rules. So when he asks; Hey Cap, wanna fly today? I smile & go get my helmet.

Growing old is only years, experiences are forever. Tolerance, practice & live it. Life will repay you inkind ten fold.

I miss the album art work, liner notes & snap/crackle/pop. Yes qship96, the tonal qualities of analog vs digital is & always will be a debatable issue among audiophiles. FLASAH BACK!!!!!! Believe it or not! I was the only one in my hi-school freshman year w/a 45rpm record player in my DESOTO FIRE FLIGHT! It loaded upside down. J.C. Whitney.LMFAO My ole man just laughed & laughed that i would spend a weeks pay on that & a re-verb. OK, i think i'm thru walking down memory lane. Long path.
