I'm trying to change it on my 92 240, but the flippin bolt that sticks up through the spindle is stuck. I looked at the fsm, and it shows nothing that should be holding it in place. the transverse link is disconnected from the crossmember, so do I need to just hit that stud harder with a hammer? Am I missing something?

hit the spindle part on the side, not the bolt. if you hit the part of the spindle that the bolt goes through, it will break any rust loose and allow you to remove it fairly easily.

Cool, just rust then. Thanks for the tip.

I used a ball joint separator on mine because the joint gets pressed in there when you torque down the nut.
