I've just had a 96' Q45 transmission installed on my 93' Q and I'm getting a vibration at low speeds. The vibrartion does not travel through the steering wheel, so I'm guessing there aren't any problems with the steering or suspension. The car didn't have this problem before I had the transmission replaced and I'm calling foul play from the shop where it was done. Of course, I was out of state when I had it replaced, and I won't be returning, so I've got to figure this one out on my own and just eat the repair bill. As far as I've been told, it is most likely an un-balanced torque converter. Are there any Q45 specific transmission problems I should be looking out for? What about ways to perform a sure fire diagnosis?

Well, since it was used, did you rehabilitate it? How do you know it was a good, or at least better transmission? You realize first and secdon gear ratios are different? I wonder how the OBD II TCU connectors were mated to the OBD I connectors?

More data please.

worn transmission mount, driveshaft reinstalled without regard to marking previous position causing an unbalanced assembly, torn exhaust hangers, etc plenty of things to check before looking inside transmission itself

The original transmission was stuck in second gear and had transmission fluid that was dark brown. I equipped the replacement with a transmission fluid cooler, but beyond that, I didn't play a hand in replacing it. Basically, the job was an emergency replacement. Otherwise, I'd be stranded. I haven't looked at the OBD connections yet. To be honest, that didn't occur to me and it will definitley be next on the list. There's been no visible movement from the exhaust and I doubt hangers to be the problem, due to the force of the vibration. I didn't consider the driveshaft; however, I attempted to take it out of the equation by performing a "powerstall", as recommended by a friend. Basically, I applied the throttle and the brake simultaneously. The vibration persisted. I'd like to thank you guys for replying, and I'll definitley be checking the OBD connections. Is there anything else that could possibly be causing this, given what I've described? I really, really don't want to start pulling that headache apart, but hey....you do what you gotta' do.
