For the longest time I have had a rattling noise at neighborhood speeds like many other threads I've seen and people have replaced sway endlinks and lots of other parts or never found anything loose. Well I finally found my issue and hope this will help someone else...for me it was the brake calipers rattling. On one of the guide pins of each caliper has a rubber bushing on it that either gets destroyed or swells and doesn't fit back in the tube so I think people toss it and don't replace it. I'm guilty of it on my last brake change and just greased it up real good and by the time the grease dwindled and the noise started, it had been too long so I didn't associate the new noise with the previous work.

The bushing is really cheap (like 5 bucks per corner) and comes with the guide pin boot kit so really a no brainer to replace it all at each brake job. Also thought I'd share the best grease for brakes. I use Sil-Glyde on street brakes and the Silaramic on track brakes. Both work great and last forever for their intended purpose.

Thanks so much for the follow up on this. I’ve been planning to dig into this specific guide pin area and investigate to fix my own rattle, and you’ve done the work already!

Can you share what parts you ordered? Did you go genuine OEM?

I used AC Delco 18K2071 (front) and 18K2124 (rear) from Rock Auto ($3.70, $7.84) and only requires one kit for each end. I didn't check OEM but cant imagine it would be too expensive if you wanted to go that route.

Great post!

I had this same issue on a G37x and after replacing sway bar bushings I found that the rattle occurred over slight bumps at low speeds - unless I lightly depressed the brake pedal. Finally figured out the calipers were loose if I moved them and solved the issue with a new hardware kit for the pads, thorough cleaning of the calipers and liberal amounts of lubricant when re-assembling.

Here's a video of me recreating the noise on my G37x -

Just to close the loop, I did this caliper pin maintenance and rubber parts replacement over the weekend on my 2011 M37x, and it completely cured my rattle. I’ve been listening to that annoying rattle for so long that it’s almost eerie having it gone. Thanks again for the tips!
