So, I noticed my exhaust was a tad "sooty" and requested they make note of the oil level during this synthetic change. I pushed this oil service a bit more than normal and had 7k miles on it. The result? I was 17mm low, whatever that really means. It was enough of a drop where I need to take it back in 1000 miles to have it checked out to determine if I have a blow-by issue or not. Fun times.

Fun times in the neighborhood.

Is it on the coupe or the sedan? I assume coupe. What oil did you use? Did you use Nissan's Ester oil?

I told you all there was going to be TSB on the G37's with oil consumption issues. 10mm is 1/4 of a quart. The old TSB for the g35 rev up engine was anything more than 8mm in 1k miles is a failure. Be sure to drive like you stole it during this test. What is the normal drain interval for the oil you are using?

I've been dealing with oil usage since the day I purchased my G
Currently it uses between 1 1/2 and almost two quarts in 3500 to 4k miles
When I did the consumption test I didn't qualify for a replacement engine.
I had a 2010 loaner a couple of weeks ago and asked the service advisor about oil consumption on new vehicles.
I was told they all consume oil.
Oil is cheap and I buy whatever is on sale and mostly use pennzoil ot GTX.
I change it every 3 to 3500 miles and will be doing my 40th oil change next week
I don't think I've ever gone over 4k miles without changing my oil.
I guess 7k miles between oil changes is okay if you lease and get a new vehicle every few years but I usually drive a vehicle until there is not much left of it.

I'm not using Ester oil. The Infiniti dealership does all my oil changes and uses 5w30 synthetic (not sure what brand). I usually get the oil changed every 5k with the synthetic.

Telco, I understand the 3k oil change issue. If I were more stop-n-go I would probably stay around the 3k range like I do with the sedan. Since I'm 90%+ highway travel and running synthetic I let it go to 5k-ish. In my Maxima, with the VQ35DE, I used regular oil and did 5-7k changes and after 158k miles it didn't burn a drop and never had an issue. Again, 90%+ highway.

Oil consumption seems to vary from engine to engine. Except during the break in period, my G37 hasn't used any between changes every 3,750 miles. Compare that to Telcoman's experience. As he says, oil is cheap. If Infiniti offers you a new engine, take it. Otherwise, check your oil level frequently enough that you won't run dry and keep topping it off.

Tell Steve to Git'R dun.

I was a tad irritated as I asked for the 'vert to be held over for a road test review while I had my car in the shop and I didn't get it. Hell, they had loaned out the M too. Gonna have to have a bit of a talk with him about their treatment of me :ohno:

I think it just started as within the last month I have started to notice a residue in my exhaust outlets. I'll take it in as requested to see if there's a real issue or not. I have no issue with getting a new engine if it's offered.

I was a believer in Mobil1 until I started having some oil level issues. Having a RevUp VQ I was a little concerned but after some research I heard other non-RevUp VQ owners having some burn off issues with Mobil1. I changed to Castrol Syntec (5W30) and it was better but the last change I did was with German Castrol and I've not noticed level drop at all.

Now I won't use anything else.
