low oil presure due to leaky tensioner??

i have a 1990 nissan 240sx and recently the engine has been making a lot of noise (it sounds like the lifters ratling as well as the timing chain clanking around). Then the oil light started intermittently going on and off. Since I've already had my all the timing chain guides replaced, the noise of the timing chain slapping around tells me that the tensioner has failed. And since the tensioner is oil fed, I'm wondering if a leak in the tensioner would be the cause of the low oil presure as well as the noisy lifters and timing chain. Any ideas??
