Hi everyone,

I have a 93 J, and for some reason when I am stopped at a red light the car rpm drops down to about 500.

Is this normal?

Also, when the idle drops down, the battery indicator comes on.

Any help will be great.

Thanks,

Geoff.

I had the same problem. After reading some posts on this site I follow their instructions and clean the MAF sensor (10 mimutes job), and I also spray clean the throttle butterflies (20min job). The car now runs like a hotrod. The difference is like day and night.

Can I adjust the idle myself, or is this something I have to have professionally done?

Thanks,

Geoff.

No, you can't. It is not adjustable.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for the replys. Actually, my idle hovers around 900 rpm when in park/nuetral and about 600-700 rpm when in drive/stopped. I was thinking of a clock instead of an odometer when I posted this thread. Sorry.

I believe that that idle in drive/stopped is normal. It is just a little crazy sometimes when it tries to go below the 600 rpm mark. That is when it feels like the engine is fighting to stay at a higher rpm. Is this normal?

Is the nuetral/park a little high? Does this mean that the car is running too rich or since the idle is normal when in drive, is everything o.k?

Thanks everyone, and sorry for the clock/odometer mixup.

Geoff.

DIRTY FILTHY SLIMEY INSIDE from combination of air dirt, PCV oil vapor, and egr carbon..............once it gets too dirty the IAC cannot properly maintain idle speed [it's job]...............wide variations between in neutral and in drive rpm with ac on/off, electrical load, power steering position PROVE the problem.

[Raises hand]

I know, I know

IAC is on the manifold, driver's side, on the back towards the firewall.
