low idle problems

i have an 89 hatch my car ideals between 1500 and drops down to like 500 then goes back up constanly it feels like it wants to die everytime i park it or stop at a light but never does. when im driving car is perfect though any suggestipns

its supposed idle around 1200 or so when you first start car or when engine cold. clean your iacv per the thead in my signature.

i hate to sound like such an idoit but whats an iacv? and do u reall think that would fix my idleing issue

its explained in referred thread. you definitely have to clean it. With the sohc , i think it is even easier to get at.just remove 4 bolts and you will see all the black gunk. this is a good start.

you also need to disconnect the hose going from aiv to filter box.

if you have not cleaned your throttle , that has to be done. these are all things that need to be done on any 240sx over 10 years. there are likely multiple factors contributing to bad idle. you have to knock them off one by one.

do u think that sea foam deep creep stuff would do all of that or do i have to do it by hand

Dump a bottle of Redline Complete Fuel System Cleaner in your tank next time you fill up (use a higher octane and some good gas - your car is worth it). If your car is still idling rough use another bottle next time you fill up. If that doesn't solve your problem use the suggestions above.

My 240 idled rough when I got it, so I used the Redline and changed my oil. It fixed my problem in no time!
